Maybe it's the pessimist in me but I fear that this is a "if you can't beat them buy them" situation. Mars may have just got very much richer.

Mars was just an element they couldn't control. Had he not pushed so hard, they might would have handled Ole Miss differently. Not sure b/c Bama and UGA I think wanted them slapped down. But however they wanted to handle it, Mars limited their options. This simultaneously lets them prevent further information about Oxford embarrassing them (at least information from the prior investigation) and also keeps a potential wildcard out of future cases.
