Mangum signed for 20K with the Mets. That's unfortunately not a typo. System is broken when you can leverage a senior player for 1/25th of their slot value and the player can't do anything about it.

Wow. Always thought the MLB should re do their draft system but thats unreal.

yeah, eventually somebody is going to win a lawsuit on that and be able to prove discrimination against college players based on nothing but leverage. What a broken system and had it for the kids that give their heart and soul to their college programs like Jake did

It's not right but at the same time I understand why MLB lowballs them too.

I wish the draft was like CarMax. Here's the slot value. This is what you are getting. Don't like it? Go back to school, Japan, or do something else.

Someone should sue the NCAA for discrimination against college baseball players with their ridiculous scholarship limits. They would probably win since they could prove that it keeps a lot of minorities from playing college baseball.

Imagine what would happen if any business tried to do that to a female.

If the Mets would've had to pay Jake slot value, he wouldn't have been drafted in the 4th. They drafted him there to be able to go overslot on other top 10 picks

I hope he goes there and shows out and wins a WS champion ring in the near future. But really...I would love him to come back to MSU and be a coach when they get that 3rd assistant approved. I think everyone just wants him back in Starkville.

Exactly. I think it's obvious they wanted him. They drafted him twice. But both times very strategically.

This is why more and more teams are drafting seniors in these slots. That extra $460,000 they save low balling Jake can be used for 1st and 2nd round picks that the team might need leverage over.

It's unfortunate that it happened to Jake.

I can't remember which team it is, but one drafted college seniors from the 4th round until the 15th and all of them got 1k. Yes, ONE!! That's this year.

No team did exactly that, but the Mets and Marlins both did similar things.

The Marlins took college seniors in the 3rd and 4th, then the 6th-10th. They paid the 4th round pick $122K, then the others $17K, $10K, $1K, $2.5K (one is still unsigned).

The Mets took college seniors in the 4th through 12th and then 14th-17th and then again in the 19th and 20th. That's probably who you're talking about. It looks like they signed 2 of them for $1K, 4 of them for $10K and then Mangum for $20K. The weird thing is, I have no idea why they kept doing it after the 10th round, as signing players there for less than slot doesn't allow you to spend that money elsewhere.

The Mets selected him in the 32nd round last year. The yankees in 2017.
