Pitcher from Smithville who chose the Braves over MSU. He tweeted his mother passed away. I don't know their financial situation or what happened, so maybe him signing can help his family monetarily. Regardless, so sad to hear.

I wanted to post this but didn't feel right doing so. I'm glad you did. The family went to Atlanta for his signing. His mother had some serious underlying health problems, that were evidently well under control. That changed while they were there. She was hospitalized in Atlanta and died this morning. I can't imagine going from the high of what was undoubtedly a family dream to losing part of the core of your family. I've already said a prayer or two. Hopefully y'all will too. I don't know them but by all accounts they are really good folks, salt of the earth types.

I consider those guys that sign and end up going MLB as Dawgs. Roy Oswalt is a huge fan even though he never played at Dudy Noble.

As someone whom played minor league ball I will never condemn anyone who takes the money. Having said that a $100,000 - 200,000 signing bonus does not go very far after taxes. Even a $1,000.000 dollars will get you 675.000 after taxes unless you reside in California then its about $500,000. I realize that sounds like a lot but it really isn't in todays world. But if you need the money then go with it.
