I'm doing a family fish fry Saturday and then of course the Dawgs Sunday night. Big weekend

Made a quick snapper trip this morning. Limited out pretty early, but the 3-4s ran us out quick before we could go looking for some lemon fish. Good trip though. May make another run tomorrow morning, if not, I plan on taking the kayak out and getting some redfish to grill for Sunday.

Suck in the ME for a couple weeks. Slight relief from the heat with a few Lebanese beers. Not bad, but like most every other green bottle.

I get home about 10 last night and go to pull fish from my garage deep freeze for fish fry tonight and it totally thawed inside. Turns out my breaker for my garage tripped at some point. I lost about 50 redfish filers, a cpl steaks, ground beef, chicken, a lasagna, veggies, and bolognese sauce. I’m sick about it. Was up til 11 cleaning out my deep freeze. The bright side is I’m in the restaurant biz so I ran to work and grabbed a case of fresh catfish so fish fry still on but damn that hurt.

Day early but happy Father’s Day to all the dads on here. Saw this and thought it was cool and relatable. I’m about the same. The water keeps me sane but the woods ain’t so bad either

I learned a long time ago when I went through the same catastrophe to put a ice tray upside down in the freezer. You will know if you have had a thaw. They also have apps and devices you can plug into your freezer plug and it will alert you if power goes out.

Fish fry went great and I forgot to take pics. Bunch of family and now I’m having a Tom Collins and watching Colors. Ready for tomorrow #HailState

I got two yard birds and a pork butt on smoking and will be putting on a couple dozen atomic buffalo turds in an hour or so. Don’t plan on doing much today except eating and some grad school stuff. And the baseball game, of course.

Prediction? Pain.

Busy weekend. Spent most of the day Friday at Bonnaroo with the wife and a few old friends. One of my boys has connections, so we had "Artist" passes, which are exactly what they sound like and aren't available to buy. They weren't playing around at the bar areas behind the scenes:

Those are serious ryes, y'all. The 10-year's the only one I got to and it was great. Not sure it's $90-per-bottle great, but solid nonetheless.

The bands I saw included Parquet Courts, Courtney Barnett, Childish Gambino, Cherry Glazzer, and Beach House. Courtney Barnett was outstanding, Parquet Courts was a nice throwback to early 90's indie/post-punk, and the Gambino show was probably the most extravagant spectacle I've ever seen at a concert (though most shows I see (or, more accurately, saw back in the day) are pretty low key). I'd only been to Bonnaroo once before and it was way back in '03 (the second year of the festival), and, man, do I feel old now. My 38-year-old ass was like a surviving dinosaur who somehow wandered into an ice-age scene among herds of scantily clad cave-dwelling stoner proto-humans. I was equal parts bewildered, curious, and amused.

Also got semi-propositioned by some cute (and only semi-clothed) 20-something Phish fans wanting to tag along in the restricted areas I was mindlessly wandering around, so I guess that was something noteworthy. Flattering, funny, and depressing all at the same time.

Anywho, Saturday was a lazy day, but it ended with starting a massive brisket on the smoker to be shared with my dad the next day. 13.3 lbs before trimming and too big for my food grate. No worries, though -- time to break out the second story:

I've been smoking brisket for nearly a decade. And this was probably the best one I've ever had. The smoke and the rub were right on, but damn, I must have hit the jackpot with the cow. Dry aged and local as always. So, so, so good. And it wasn't just me. My wife and dad agreed with my assessment. In fact, my dad ate it for three straight meals across two days. Hell yeah.

This weekend I also picked up my share from an order of Buffalo Trace Single Barrel Select, which I participated in with my Bonnaroo friends and some of their people down in Huntsville. Not available in stores for the past few years, so I was interested to try it. (Plus, just regular ole Buffalo Trace is rare as hell and unduly pricey in Chattanooga. My handle of the single barrel probably cost about as much as a normal bottle of the regular stuff here.)

First go around was neat. Smooth and nice, not too sweet, though maybe not super complex, either.

So yeah, pretty solid weekend even before the bonkers 9th inning yesterday.
