View Full Version : Taking from other threads... OM Athletics is basically a Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme.

On paper they believe they are legitimate contenders because they sign supposed #1 classes. Rarely if ever do any of those classes amount to anything outside of a 4-8 week run. One made a super, the other supposed one had to abandon everything they accomplished and had the Second Coming sent to purgatory. Nothing is sustained long term, because their investors are short sighted and easily duped. No one with a functioning brain above infant level should be surprised here.

The investors (fan base) has been duped into believing that the return on investment is and will continue turning over success, but in reality nothing is gained. Moreover, more is lost long term, than anything perceived to have been gained short term.

It is hard to draw analogies to that Uber dysfunctional bunch but Madoff came to mind reading the womens b-ball thread and Shotguns baseball thread. In reality, there could be a new study of psychology solely dedicated to the mindset that is the OM fan. It is quite perplexing, to see a base with so very little positives In their history. For them to portray such unrealistic fantasies as far from reality as one can get, of what they were, what they are, and where they are going. Calling them delusional would render the term delusion ineffective for the remainder of human history. Words cannot describe them as a whole.

I think you are on to something there rouge. All their fans have this type attitude for some reason. They all think success will be quick and fruitfull simply beacuse they are olemiss. But then after they lose a game and look bad they will all tell u they expected the team to fail and crash etc. They are a comical bunch for sure.

While I would love to attribute that to a particular fanbase, the mistake is thinking that recruiting rankings in baseball have a direct causation to success over and above other factors. Assistant coaches, strategy, mlb draft, pitcher development, and injuries make recruiting rankings just another ho hum statistic. Ole miss has had moderate success because they are lead by a guy that was a part of a winning program when he played and understands the ingredients that it takes. They have been frustrated for not making the big step because baseball success is a fickle lady.

For whatever success you can purchase in football and basketball, baseball is MUCH less susceptible to that strategy. Om fans don?t understand that. Neither do some of our fans.

Edited to add: I still think Rouge's point is grounded in truth. They want the APPEARANCE of success but dont understand that it doesnt often translate into ultimate success.

I thought the same thing years ago with the Tobias Singleton and CJ Johnson stuff.

If they ever change the scholarship rules in baseball the teams like Miss State that are good will then almost become really good.

It's very simple: OM = Style over Substance, MSU = Substance over Style. One is fleeting, with a few hits, but more misses and one is sustainable with a strong foundation for growth (albeit slow) . This is true of the universities themselves and the teams they field.

I would hate to be in the world of a Ole Miss fan.

Yes. They want the success without putting in the work. Cutting corners in the process always leads to trouble. MSU has built its football program slowly and carefully over the last 10 years. We may not beat Bama (ever) but we are gaining respect. We are no longer spoken of as a terrible program and are starting to get noticed more and more in preseason because of our sustained success.

These things leads to a better recruiting profile, which leads to better recruiting, which helps us build our program, which leads to more respect, which leads to a better recruiting profile....

And we are 2 WRs and a baller of a QB from beating Bama. AJ going to UM hurt. That is clear.

If AJ had gone somewhere besides UM it wouldn't have been MSU.

Mostly our pride as fans. I am sure Dan or Joe would not have used him in the way he wanted. Resulting in a transfer.

And what was known to a few of us at the time: he really wanted the Ole Miss experience all along. Treadwell was his mentor in more ways than football. MSU was one foot in the grave from the get go on his recruitment no matter what he said publicly. I tried to warn a few by private message back then but they would have none of it. They preferred to believe what was said on recruiting visits.

Yep. All the OM boards are trying to determine what's wrong with their athletics, but we've given them the answer.

1) Their leadership is terrible
2) They're lazy. They want a quick fix. They aren't willing to work in order to build something.
3) They have this false reality of what they really are. Besides some success in the 60s before black people played football, they've had little success as an athletics program. They have Auburn or LSU expectations with the trophy case of Vanderbilt. But man, that campus sure is pretty (which it is, but it's not as great as they make it out to be)
4) Like Shotgun said, and this kinda goes with #2, they're soft and they attract soft people. Hard-nosed, hard working people are attracted to MSU because that's what we are. Unless they change their culture, they should expect more of the same.

So they keep asking what's wrong, but all they need to do is look here. We've given them the answers
