This week will be the best nights to see Jupiter in the southern sky.
Tonight was probably the best. I could see Jupiter, its stripes and 4 of its moons very clearly. Just amazing to see it with your own equipment just like Newton did.

I believe this week you will be able to see the same with a 20x binoc set or a hunting scope. Just FYI.

11:30, jupiter was about 35 degrees above the horizon, about 10 degrees east of due south. It is the brightest thing in that area. Really easy to see.

I remember taking Astronomy at Holmes and one night, we were outside looking at Saturn. Pretty surreal to be looking at it for real and not just a photo. The magnification was so high I could watch as it floated across the lens.

I remember seeing some of Jupiter's moons through a friend's telescope back in '92 or '93. It took a while to get it focused goid, but once we did it almost looked fake it was so clear. It was eerie to be able to see something so far away.
