Couldn't find individual or team stats. We definitely shouldn't overlook them, but if we struggle to beat Southern, then we've already got huge problems.

The more I look into this, the more I like our draw. Miami is decent but they're young. Central Michigan looks good on paper, but they haven't played anyone with a pulse. Show up, be loud, and let's set a date for a Super.

As far as how the teams are playing as of late, Miami is 6-4 in the last ten games with losses to Duke, Wake Forrest, and UCF.

Central Michigan has won 18 straight.

Miami better watch out

This needs to be our mentality going into this regional.

No lefties in anyone's rotation...?

I like our draw but both Miami and CMU will give us fits if we don’t get our heads of our asses at the plate. They should both throw their ace on Friday.

Everyone who has made a start for Miami has been a RHP. Central Michigan has two LHP who have made a couple of starts, but their stats are pretty terrible.

5 of Miami's top 7 hitters are Lefties

Alex Toral is their big bopper, 286 Avg (248 Avg in The ACC) 22 Hr but 63 Ks in 199 ABs

Only bulldog in the 60+ K club is Westy with 62 in 233 ABs

How worried should we be about Miami?

Depends on whether or not our hitters remember they have a bat at the plate and not a nine iron.

All the more reason to save Small for game 2

7 guys hitting over .300

they have over 100 SB.

Wish I could find fielding stats..SWAC teams usually boot it a bunch.

I actually think we have a cricket swing, like we plan to hit the ball on the rebound. Even the Mangum SEC record breaking hit was an ugly cricket hit with one knee on the ground

I think we definitely need to save Small for game 2. That's non negotiable to me.

Can't take anyone hitting and running that aggressively lightly. Catchers better be shutting down the base paths. Errors kill you against teams like that too. Better play clean.

They have (I assume) a closer with 17 appearances, 20.1 IP and a 0.0 ERA.

What I assume are their starters based on IP all have ERA's from 4.4 to 6.9.

So their closer can't go more than 1 really and their starters get lit up. Stop the runners. Dont commit errors. Win the game.

Gotta figure Southern throws Eli Finney against us. He is the guy who beat LSU the 2nd time they played them. Also has the best era of theirs consistent starters.

Also of note. Southern hasn't played a game since May 19th, when they beat Alabama St 15-0 to win the SWAC championship. They were supposed to play an exhibition game (HBCU World Series) in Chicago but it was cancelled.

And based on their pitchers stats, I think you go Plumlee first. We haven't really been lighting it up at the plate, so that concerns me a little bit, but if you can't beat Southern with your third starter, I don't think you can expect to go very deep in the post season regardless.

You run the risk of Plumlee not pitching more than an inning for the 2nd week in a row. I think you throw Plumlee and just make sure you have Small to pitch you into the Regional Championship game. Smith has came out of the bullpen for most of the year so he should be good if we just get him some spot duty.

Yep..I can't count this morning and was thinking 3 more games after opening. nope. no need for 4 starters (unless we lose our 2nd game) until Omaha.
Pitch Plum first. He can take care of the job.

I wouldn’t announce and let them plan for a righty or lefty ahead of time.. Make them plan and practice for both. Or hell announce its Small and then trot Plum out there Friday.

Nope doubt that comes out till thur night fri night. but I believe Lemonis is smart enough to not waste Small.. unlike Polk and Maholm in 2003.

Throwing Small against a SWAC team would be fifty times dumber than when Polk threw Maholm against MTSU. Don?t think there?s any real chance of that happening, though.

I don't know. Lemonis has been very status quo with trying to keep everyone throwing on their day.

I agree with everyone that wants to throw Plumlee. To me there is very little risk. If we win, we have our ace ready for someone's #2, Ginn throwing in a potential championship game and if we lose we have our ace going in an elimination game followed by our number 2 which helps us get back on schedule. Either way you end up with your four in a championship game if it goes to Monday.
