He already has four grand slams in his career.

That ball was mashed. And off Kenley Jansen.

And what I saw from the clip was a .218 BA and him being a pinch hitter. Neither one of those things can be good for his long term outlook.

He is still young and has not adjusted to pitchers adjusting to him and his early success. It?s a back and forth and he?s still trying to counteract the adjustments pitchers have made. He must be making progress because you do not mash one like that unless you are looking for a certain pitch in that situation. He got what he was looking for and did not miss it.

So no.

He?s started the bulk of the games this season and was at .254 with 6 homeruns just 5 games ago. It?s so early in the season a little slump the 4 games prior dropped his avg that much. I mean he hit .250 for April with 6 HR and a .925 OPS. You take that for a comer outfielder every month and be glad for it

Yet he's still OPS'ing over .800 with a 0.6 WAR despite a .220 BABIP.

That was his 7th HR this year.

Hunter is actually playing well this season. His babip is .220 (career .271), so bad luck is some of the BA issue. He's at 0.6 fWAR through 31 games, so that's 3.1 over 162 games. He's actually a positive defender this year too

ETA... dang you, smoot haha

Manny Machado is only hitting 9 points higher than Renfroe, while his slugging is 100 points worse than Renfroe. Will they cut Machado soon, or send him to the minors?*****

He hit another HR last night, that makes 8. Just because I saw .218 does not mean I am not rooting for the guy.

Nobody said you were not pulling for him, but you made an incorrect assumption about his career from an early season stat line. In 2 games his avg is up 21 points to .239. If he goes 2 for 4 again the next couple of game he would be hitting .260 for the season. That’s how quick it can change the avg with under 150 AB.

After last night, Renfroe has a higher batting average than Machado. And his slugging is 144 points higher than Machado.

Not sure why you compare the 2 though... machado and renfroe aren't even close to the same type of player.

Totally agree. It was more aimed at the poster worrying about Renfroe's long term outlook because of his numbers, yet nobody is concerned with Machado's long term outlook despite having worse numbers.

He homered again last night vs the Mets.

He also hit it off of Jacob deGrom who is arguably the best pitcher in the MLB

I didn't realize that he was the Padres 4th outfielder. I don't keep up with MLB other than State guys in passing. It is tribute to his abilities that he has almost 100 AB's as the 4th OF. They cannot keep him out of the lineup with his power numbers.

Since he has not had 4/5 AB's a night as an everyday starter, he does not have 130-140 AB's that some have gotten thus far in the season and the avg of .218 can be changed even quicker but:

I can't help it though, after 30 plus game into the season, my first reaction to seeing .218 was not a good thought.

It?s not really a 4th OF. They Platoon him between Myers and Reyes for the corner OF depending on pitching match up. Just like Myers picks up extra starts for Margot at CF. Margot and Renfroe have about same starts and game action. He is 8th on the team in AB?s, which is a default starting number. It?s just all 4 OF?s are in their top 8 in AB?s and almost exactly where Margot is in number of AB?s as well

Dude is on fire since you posted this - 3rd game in a row with a HR to win it. BA now up to .250 and SLG .610
