You can really tell in the hitting... all the sudden it's like nobody wants to take a pitch and they bit on everything. 0 ability to recognize spin because they wise it was a FB, zero effort to stay on the ball and drive it because pulling it gives them a better shot at a HR, zero effort to work the count because that would mean you have to face the pressure of the at bat for longer. We’ve allowed a true freshman QB to shut us down who’s only win is against Arkansas Pine Bluff. Let that sink in. He pitched 15 pitches against Vandy and gave up 7 runs. Our inability to blow this game out early put a ton of pressure on our pitching which eventually the dam broke.

How do I know? Because they've done it before. But all weekend- poor approach at the plate, poor fielding, not attacking hitters...that's all mostly controllable. Emphasis on mostly. What I mean is- you may strike out but at least make them throw you 8-10 pitches to do it. You may give up a hit or a home run as a pitcher- but at least have it be because you went right after the hitter and attacked his ass. Baserunning- that's about being smart, knowing the fielders and their abilities, and trusting your coaches.

Our SOS is KILLED by scheduling five SWAC teams- which was stupid on whoever's part. Especially with La Tech basically begging us to play them in a game. So don't go by SOS especially when our RPI is in the teens.

I’ve never seen us play as poorly as we did this weekend since early in the year last year. Horrible approaches at the plate and not adjusting, horrible job on the mound not attacking hitters, and inconsistent play in the field leads to get pounded and swept. We have to play Gilbert at third. I much rather just make the routine plays and be average there then make spectacular plays but also commit costly errors. Halter made an outstanding play but then errored an easy double play ball that opened the flood gates for that 8 run inning that basically ended the game. If he makes that DP at most we are down 2-0.

The hitting will come around, but unless we go gorilla ball on everyone or Small and Ginn are able to turn in multiple CGs down the stretch we're in a world of trouble.

Add that to the fact that it didn’t look like today we were even sitting dead red fastball on a pitcher whose fastball was the only pitch he could get over the plate for a strike and it looks like our approach is flawed. We would let 87-88 mph fastballs that were right down Broadway go by and swing at pitches in the dirt. Just horrible approaches at the plate all weekend long and we did the same thing on Tuesday as well. Maybe we just don’t like Thursday series starts. We are 1-5 so far in Thursday series starts.

The hitting will come around? The hitting was a big reason we got swept. We allowed a backup QB to shut us out. The hitting is a HUGE HUGE piece on why we sucked this weekend. You can’t score 8 runs on the weekend against Arkansas and win a series against them. They are the third best hitting team in the conference with a very flawed pitching staff.
