Headed down tonight and fishing tomorrow to take advantage of what looks like good conditions. If the weather cooperates I?m throwing a bunch of topwater out front. It?s that time of year but water quality is a big concern for trying that. We will see. I?ll report back good or bad. Pictured is what I?m going with tied on to start and just found a cool rod travel option using my new Ram track mount tubes. Just angled those bad boys forward and secured the rods.

Nice set up. Hopefully I'll be getting down there at some point to do some kayak fly fishing. Let us know how it goes.

I’ll report shortly but I got back in town, picked up my kids, took my family to dinner, and just got home. Kiddos to bed and put up gear. I’m beat. Caught some today including a certain flat foe

Yesterday was prefishing for a tournament end of April where I really needed to find 2 species of fish: Specks & flounder. I’m pretty comfortable with finding reds. I started off at Henderson point because the weather called for 5-10 mph winds seas of 1ft or less. Well at 630 am it was a probably 10-15 mph NW wind which is the absolute worst wind for Hendo point because the wind gets to let that water gather momentum coming across the bay. Add it some incoming tide and by far the choppiest part of the bay was where I wanted to try topwater for trout. I’m hardheaded so I tried it anyway for a bit and got nothing and I ended losing a boonedox landing gear leg and wheel. No idea how that $75 mistake happened. Nightmare morning at this point.

Moved back to more protected north parts of the bay. My “home” waters. I didn’t take my phone out b/c I lost that leg and a nut that holds my Lowrance on the track (had a spare) so I’m thinking the only way this gets worse is if I drop my phone over. So I put it up lol. Anyway, this area of the bay is shallow and covered with marsh grass shorelines ie my favorite habitat. I did my normal grind and caught several redfish and caught my biggest flounder in years. Didn’t have my net ready and it took what felt like an eternity to get it out and right when I get it in the water and turn the flounder back toward me, a head shake and he’s gone. Still glad that I know they’re there and that will only get better with improving water conditions. I wasn’t going to keep any reds but I was already thinking about how I was going to cook that flounder so I kept my next red for the ride home.

The day started off with me really taking it on the chin but got better. Learned a few lessons too which will only help me in the long run.

Part of it is I’m crazy. I closed at work Tues night in the metro, got to the pad on the coast at 12:30, up at 530, fish til
1pm, shower and back in the metro eating at Cock of the Walk with my fam by 6. Weather looked good and with Easter coming up might have been my last shot before my tourney
