View Full Version : Cerantola struggling, again. Kid has a dynamic arm but he can't hit the broad side

His delivery blows. His arm is by his butt and his front side is moving forward before his arm is moving. Zero consistency in his misses.

If you saw what Lemonis said at the pitching change, he acknowledged how hard Cerantola had been working but that he couldn't keep him in.

Cerantola is not and will not be the answer ever this year folks. He's got major mechanical issues and should not be considered a factor in any way this year.

I kind of feel bad for Cumbest. Surely he wants to be out there playing baseball today. The more AB's he can get, the better for everyone. But football pays the scholarship.

Hitting 3 batters in one inning must be some kind of record.

He is definitely a "Wild Thing". As a former pitcher his mechanics are screwed up shoulder opens up or he throws across his body. Live arm though I believe they can correct him in time.

There was a game back in the 80's I remember our pitcher hit 6-7 batters in one game. I can't remember the pitchers name.

Our fans use the smallest bodies of work to make judgements. Cerantola hadn't really done anything to say he would be any better than KJ on Sunday. He did decent against a couple garbage teams. Experience matters, a LOT, unless you are 1st round MLB draft pick. If James ultimately can't fill that role, I think Plumlee is the obvious next option. He has tons of experience and has battled for us in tight spots. That assumes we have someone that can take care of midweek, but honestly midweek from this point forward is not going to mean much big picture.

We are doing the same thing with Cumbest. He has had some good games but the sample size is so small to just say he will be in our regular starting line up. Especially when we are so deep offensively.

Time to make the suggestion. Cole start Sunday's and let White or Brandon Smith close.

If Plumlee can hold it together for 2-3 more innings let him go Sunday. But I think at some point we have to seriously consider Cole as our Sunday option because Keegan and Cerantola for sure can't do it.

And how many do you need exactly? I'd say if I had 2 capable at each side of the plate that's an abundance of riches. Not to mention Gilbert has almost a 100 point higher on base % to this point so Lemonis isn't exactly shooting from the hip.

If you move Gilbert to the field you lose the dh. Would have to change hitter every time or hit a pitcher.

The second throw was a designed cut to throw home. First throw was really really stupid. If that's the first and third defense we had up I would be shocked. I know Hayden has a good arm but you have two outs.

Right. You've got to angle to the bag a little to sell the runner at 3rd if you are conceding the he steal at 2nd. That means you want the guy at 3rd to go.

You can also run one that's a choice play. If the guy at 3rd goes the middle infielder not covering the 2B bag cuts and throws. If he doesn't go he can let it ride to 2B.

I wouldnt be so quick to throw Keegan away. To me its either him or Plumlee. Both are capable and both are going to battle out there. I would be ok with using Gordon as a starter on Sundays and Keegan midweek but I dont expect it to happen.

We are not as bad as we think we are on Sundays but I dont think we are as good as we hoped in that particular role. If that makes sense. The rest of the team is a legitimate natty contender

I agree. But if I’m a coach I’m letting my Sunday starter who hasn’t pitched as great as my first 2 that I’m looking for a number 3. Brings pressure to him and the candidates and you see who is ready to step up. Unless your by far the best I want you to be pressed to be better. Keegan should feel pressure until he doesn’t need but our other players have to be pressed to step up. It’s a interview. Small and Ginn got their job. Now interview and get the 3rd job.

I hope Tanner finds it again versus LSU. There is bad blood there from recruiting. Tanner is a guy that can hit 550 for two weeks, so he can have an LSU series....

Then we can start talking about sitting for a while to let Hatcher play 1b. Or a platoon situation with Gilbert at 1B.

He did have a hit in every game vs Auburn so I think the Tanner hate is a little overblown. You'd think some people would learn to relax and dont worry about it bc 1. theres nothing you can ever do about it and 2 Tanner will come out of it. Hes a tough kid just like Rowdey it will be ok

Not that your comment was directed at me, but I certainly wasn't hating on Tanner, just making a joke. I know he'll be fine, as Rowdy has shown.
