I remember seeing some article about a few years back and I mean no more than 4-5 years ago. I said that the student bodies of the 2 schools both voted to have the trophy. What I wonder is if it was more Ole Miss pushing the trophy and LSU kind of just being like, "whatever...sure dude (snicker)"

the Magnolia comes from the fact that the magnolia is the state flower of both LA and MS
