It is the one position that typically struggles so I am glad to have Coach Cheese working with them. Skelton seems like he is a ton better defensively and his hitting has improved. Gilbert is a great hitting catcher and both freshmen look like they are going to be great SEC players. It seems like we might have the position covered for at least the next 3 years.

Jones might have the best arm I have seen since Easley.

Jones throwing that USM guy out by two step was awesome.

Skelton is the present. Jones is the future. I hate it for Luke Hancock. I don’t think he can beat out Hayden. Luke is a damn good catcher, but Hayden Jones seems like he Has the tools to be very special for us.

Don?t we have a pretty highly rated catcher coming in next year? I think he is from the coast area. Not sure if he is a draft risk or not.

Ethan Hearn, and he is a draft risk. Logan Tanner also catches when he doesn't pitch.

Is tanner a pitcher or catcher in college?

With mid 90s heat, probably pitcher.

According to JC on the Radio last night...we have the best catching situation in the Nation and that Luke Hancock might be the highest potential of the 4

The answer is that I have to go back to Barry Winford and Jim Robinson for the best pair of active catchers, to my memory

In 2013 we had Kruger and Gavin Collins, but Collins was the everyday 3B.

I have to go with Barry Winford and Jim Robinson also. Let's see how things go a little further when saying "best ever", potential wise could be.

2005- Thomas Berkery and Ed Easley.

What do I win?

I haven?t seen jones but if he?s better than Hancock defensively then he be a STUDD...which he may very well be. Hancock is the best all around defensive catcher I?ve ever watched. He has an MLB arm rite now. His only issue that I?ve seen is that he?s not built like a guy that can handle the position every day. Some time in a D1 weight room may help with that.

I think Jones and Hancock will platoon at the position.

Logan Tanner is probably a pitcher for us. Ethan Hearn has a decent chance of making it to MSU from what I understand.

Tatum caught in the big leagues. Didn't he overlap with with at least one of those if not both?

ETA: Berkery and Tatum were on the 03 and 04 teams.

Yes. We were one year in difference between having two MLB catchers on the roster in Tatum and Easley. And Berkery was in school during both of their time at MSU.

Also of note- Elih Marrero is off to a good start in the Red Sox system. Long way to go but if Kruger (highly likely he makes it up soon if not this year) and Marrero makes it up in about 3-4 years we would have had two future MLB catchers on the 2016 team as well.
