Baseball uniform question

Why do our baseball uniforms not have the players name on the back of the jersey like other sports do? Just something I noticed when I was looking at Clark and Palmeiro pictures and comparing them to the uniforms we have now. They had names on the back. Other teams we play have their names on the jerseys too. Maybe we do on certain uniforms but so far I dont think I've seen it.

Not sure about the reasoning, but we started phasing out player names on the baseball jerseys around 2015. In 2017 and 2018 no jerseys had them.

This year’s black jerseys actually do have player names; they’re the first to have them since the 2015/16 white jerseys.

It can get a little irritating as I'm trying to figure out which player is which. Wonder why they stopped?

That's Notre Dame's excuse in football. I doubt we can say that with a straight face about baseball. But it still may be a given reason.

It's not too hard with position players, at least the every day starters, but the bullpen guys it can be tough to keep track of (except 13, 14 and 24)
