Anybody know if a cowbell will get through carry-on security at the airport?

I haven't tried, but a large blunt metal object with a handle made for swinging.....hell they took my finger nail clippers last time.

I've taken mine when I have flown to bowl games. That was out of Mobile and Memphis.

Given that they miss around 80% of the illegal items that are purposely put in bags by agencies checking their efficiency, you will probably not even get detected.

I fly every week and I asked TSA this question. They told me that it is “ify”, and it depends on the agents at the airport. So, for years we do check bags for the purpose of having our cowbells. We just don’t want to risk it. They would not confiscate it. They would tell you that it would have to put into your checked luggage and to go back to the ticket counter would just be a hassle.

I've brought a cowbell through multiple times. Half the time they take it out of my bag and take a look, half the time they just let it through. They've never taken it from me.

I've taken mine multiple times. Out of about 6 scans, only once was it taken out. They asked me what it was then put it back.

They asked me what it was

What were they stupid?

It's never a problem getting it back home out of GTR or Jackson. I usually get a smile when they spot it. The risk is real when you are flying in from out of state that you may be forced to check your bag.
