Steve reporting he?s heading back to the NFL. Sucks I thought he was doing a great job here, especially being new to college

Wonder if he would leave his new off the field job with Mullen to take an on field job with us?

I personally would rather get someone more experienced at coaching on field.

But I will say that we are seeing the beginnings of us possibly creating a nice network of former players. Banks, Bump, and Chaney all have potential in the future for us.

Whoever it is, we apparently already know internally

Former NFL players are always better than any coach with little experience or non elite college coaches imo.

We have enough pull where we can get guys that have a decent amount of coaching experience at position coaches. I know it's later in the game but we should still be able to make a good hire. And Moorhead has shown he can shake the NFL tree and get someone if he needs to.

I expect this was known and that Moorhead has a good replacement plan in place already.

I would think that is a risk of hiring a NFL coach. You don't know how they will handle the recruiting aspect and I would think the NFL could pay more.

At least he waited to leave after signing day. Doesn't really matter though because we didn't sign any LBers anyway. Unless you count Lawrence

Can Tony Hughes coach LB's and then we move Peterson to TE's?

Just answered my own question- Hughes has coached LB's at La Tech for one year.

We're going to or already have hired a LB coach.

I wasn't happy with last year, so I won't cry about losing any of the coaches. I would hate to lose shoop, but that's it

If it's the name I'm hearing I love the trade off. I want to hear it from another place or 2 before I run with it.

Would you say he's more of a coach or recruiter? Seems Moorhead is going recruiting heavy with his staff right now.

I don't know anything about him except reading his bio, but I like it on the surface anyway. He's got sec experience and it's under a good defensive coach, mason. I also like that he's coming from a program that's tough to recruit to. I rarely like getting assistants that have always recruited to blue bloods

If I'm looking at bios right, he played for Shoop his senior year at Vandy. I like that.

Last sentence is a really good point. I'm sure there are exceptions, but it's not hard to recruit dbs to Bama right now
