SPC has issued a moderate risk for severe weather. The first sentence in their discussion sums it up:

...Significant tornado and wind damage event expected across parts
of the lower to mid Mississippi and Tennessee Valleys today...

Take any warnings seriously.

Can you explain what the 15% and 10% mean. Does it mean there is a 15% chance that there will be at least one tornado in that area, or does every part of that area have a 15% chance of a tornado?

It means there is a 15% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of any point in that area.

Sitting in Indianola now waiting for storm initiation probably sometime around noon. I would say anybody from Highway 82 north needs to be monitoring this very closely.

I wouldn't. It aint worth it. If you have to please drive slowly and stay tuned in to severe weather. I'll never drive the same in the rain after this past Sunday.

Pouring gas on the fire.

I think Indianola will only get a thin squall line. I believe Clarksdale to New Albany is your spot.

So, when will the tornado watch be issued? Maybe starting at 1:00?

One will be issued shortly for most of western MS. I'd say within the hour.

The metro appears to be in the southeast most portion of the highlighted area. Should we still be fully prepared for severe weather like those in the Delta, Memphis, etc...

I?m at DNF. Looking at the line of storms around Greenwood, how long do you think I have before they get here?

ScoobaDawg
02-23-2019, 03:44 PM
I would say close to 330 some storms might start popping up around starkville. The line is moving rapidly north and slowly east.. So have to see... What fills in.. And that's what needs to be watched

It was a weird day. The storms were supposed to explode along the MS river, but the atmosphere stayed capped and shear was suppressed longer than expected so they didn't go nuclear until 130 miles east later. So for the third time in as many years I drive three hours to the delta for the damn storms to blow up 15 miles from my house. Next time I may sleep in and just sit at home and wait for them.

I take it you survived. From your posts I am convinced you live in the boonies somewhere between Columbus and Reform. Hopefully your stash of precursors is intact!. Business is business.

I had a couple of windows blown out of my place. House across the street has a huge tree through the center of. I’m fortunate it wasn’t on the ground unlike the folks on the other side of the town. That part of Columbus is pretty devastated. Only one death reported at midnight.

Just an early heads up...there's some indications that round 2 may be this coming up Friday. If it happens how bad will it be? Way too early to tell, but severe weather of some kind at least looking possible right now.
