My apologies if this was linked previously.

Mississippi State is mentioned, as is Ole Miss

I would like to share with fellow Elite Doggers some more on this issue. I will slant this to the Southeast even though this is nationwide. It is shameful how many high school players are ambushed by the recruiting process especially late in the process. It is disgusting the carnage that occurs especially in Georgia and Florida. After dreams are shattered late in the process, high school players have to think quickly to salvage their dreams. As a former California Junior College coach now coaching high school, I have seen this first hand and up close. Only a select few get access to areas like Mississippi because of residency requirements. The taxpayers pay for Mississippi residents not out of staters. California supports education first at the JUCOs and not scholarships for football player especially out of staters. California does strongly assist in grants for out of staters therefore many from places like Georgia and Florida migrate westwards. These Southern Boys usually find each other and usually share apartments usually two per bedroom and two in the living room? It is a better deal in Mississippi for locals because they can stay home with some comfort.

So we offered 254 scholarships to try to fill our class the 1st year under Jo and still fell short. Cut-throat business.

I agree a lot with Paul Johnson in this article. If you want to “offer” somebody send them papers and if kids want to “commit”, sign the papers

Kids drop schools and schools drop kids. It’s a non-story.

Naw, we didn?t get near that. Not in the sense that article is talking about. We know we aren?t getting most of those kids but we have to gauge interest.

You are correct in regards of gauging interest. Some high school coaches receive hundreds of interest letters weekly. Some college football programs subcontract to just saturate targeted players with offers without in house oversight. The issue of a program sending a coach to misrepresent its intentions is another thing to be aware of. The college staffs have their recruiting boards which prioritize scholarship offers. That coach knows the recruiting board status and sometimes misleads a high school player into believing that he has a firm commitment when in reality he is just a fill in in case someone on the recruiting board changes his mind? Possibly a 40 year coach mind and 17 year old kid? Because of this, it is an issue to enlighten fellow Elite Doggers.

It’s not an issue. Kids do the exact same thing to schools.

One thing that I keyed upon was the mention of schools making headlines by offering players that will never entertain the offer. Sounds a lot like Ole Piss. They are always announcing their offers to 4 & 5 stars recruits. (And knowing the kids will never think twice about it). It is a boost in fan readership and a false illusion. It only makes Ole Piss relevant in their own eyes.
