I'm hoping some of yall are getting to take advantage of this warm streak in Febuary. It's over 70 degrees the next 3 days in central MS and I'm clear for Wednesday as of now. Gonna get on the water and see if that warming trend has the fish actively feeding.

Decided to yak fish BSL for a bit yesterday. It was clear, 68* and no wind. When I made it to the ramp a few minutes later, it was 59* and so foggy you couldn't see the bridge. I hit a couple spots anyway, but only came out with a few puppy drum. Ready for spring trout.

You ought to fish the club tourney this year down there. April 27th again

Is that for the South MS kayak club? The fishing ought to be on fire around that time. I'll keep an eye on that one, but I've got a new baby coming in the next few weeks or so....

That’s the one. Last year was the biggest kayak tournament ever in MS.

Congrats on the baby man! 2 is just when it gets interesting

Beast or Speckledawg, could you explain to me like I'm 5 years old what the allure is with catching Speckled trout? Being from eastern MS, I'm not familiar with that fish and have never fished the coast or any bays.

Kayak fishing seems awesome so I'm very interested in that as well.

Prediction? Pain.

I took advantage of the mild weather up my way by leaving the office an hour early yesterday and rambling out around a trail that I frequent. Veered off trail a bit to explore a place I hadn't been and found one of the oddest rock formations I've seen in a while:

That's just randomly sitting on the side of a creek gorge. The whole thing's almost the size of a small house, which is always impressive regardless. But that part jutting out some 20 feet or so at a 90 degree angle, just sort of free-floating over nothing; that's something I don't see everyday.

That's pretty cool. I don't think I'd want to make shelter under that joker though.

I grew up fishing for them, so it was my first love on the water. They can be a blast - anything from getting on a big school of small ones to chasing big girls, looking for one bite all day. To me, there's not much better than a trout blow up on a topwater and then her shaking that big yellow mouth at you.
They're pretty good at spitting a hook at the side of the boat too. Pretty liberal keep limits and they taste great. That said, they can be frustrating and finicky as hell sometimes. Kayak fishing for those jokers is where it's really at.

I’m in my home away from home, Houston, TX this week. It was noted in the La Porte newspaper, that I picked up today, that the warm weather had the Reds and Black Drums very active. Specs were light due to the fresh water. Over all the reports were good due to the warming trends. I will try to find a client that can slip off next week and take me fishing here.

Prediction? Pain.

Dude, I felt nervous just standing under the thing. Granted, the nervousness was mixed with awe over what I was seeing. But yeah, I wasn't about to sit down to chill out under the dandling death rock.

Truthfully, I’m a redfish guy. That’s my fish of choice to target. Trout is second for but it’s hard to beat a hot speck bite. They are a schooling fish that feeds ferociously. Organized chaos is the best way to describe it. Bites every cast and flying over the deck with dbl and triple hookups. Now that situation sure isn’t everyday but often times when you find them, you find them. And trophy trout fisherman are their own special niche. They don’t trout fish like I do

I hit the Rez yesterday and it was a boat yard of crappie fisherman. In the river Chanel it was lit up from
Top to bottom. I was hunting bass and came up short but did 8 miles in what felt like 20 mph winds and white caps. I learned a lot running sonar for the first time. I kinda have a prespawn area picked out a really want to focus on next time.
