New rule for 2019 Turkey Season

Mississippi has just announced for 2019, all harvested turkeys must be reported. The following link will expand on it.

I wonder if turkey season is a guinea pig for expanding to requiring this for deer in the future.

They started a voluntary harvest report system a couple years ago. I actually reported the only turkey I killed in the past couple years. I assume it has to do with the fact that the turkey numbers seem to have been down over the last five or so years. Luckily, it looks like the birds are making a comeback this year on our ground.
And speck, I'm all for some kind of harvest report on deer. Doesn't have to be a check in station, but like this, basically an electronic tag. Won't deter all the bad seeds out there, but it will be a way to catch them.

I think this is good for the sport and for the state. We need to monitor harvest for intelligent decisions on seasons and bird population. I think we have strong pockets of birds, and transfer of turkeys may be needed for other areas. We have tons of turkeys, but it seems that most are hens whicH I saw during deer season. We will see this Spring when they start to gobble.

I cant wait for it to start. And Im all for it. Whatever we can do to keep some of these assholes from overkilling and getting them to do it the right way. Im an avid turkey hunter and nothing pisses me off more than somebody abusing the birds or the system. They are hard enough to keep anyway

I hear ya Bucky! I will always adhear to the state laws with bird hunting. Yes, there are some bad seeds about there and nothing can be done sometimes about them.

I like to say that now the real hunting starts with Turkey Season. Deer season passes the time and is just a prelude to Turkey hunting. I will spend a lot of time walking the woods starting now looking for signs of tracks and feathers. Possibly still locating roosting trees and dusting holes. This also gives me time to really check out the woods for deer hunting next year too with leaves off the trees and the snakes still being in hiding. Plus, I usually find out just how out of shape I am from putting on another layer of winter fat.

Absolutely. There is nothing like turkey hunting. I rabbit hunt more than I deer hunt now just to get my gun out and warmed up and its a lot of fun as well.

Supposedly there was to be an update to the MDWFP app that would provide a link to report your bird harvest. The link, I had heard was supposed to update on February 15th. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my Android and theres still no link showing up for me, anybody else having this issue?

Mine just updated...well I actually had to uninstall the app and reinstall but it has the Game Check link now.
