Just spent a cpl hours at the lease scouting all the plots, stands, and blinds because it?s crunch time. Last weekend of the season. I know I have a Saturday morning hunt but outside of that mostly family stuff. I?m sure we?ll cook something. Good luck y?all

Good luck. My season is over and I'm trying to get into fishing mode. Of course, it finally gets cold now that I'm ready to fish.

Big nothing burger today. Our lease was great early and has just died it seems like. Oh well. Bout to do a Saturday 5pm mass and Mexican for dinner. Sleep in Sunday

The early bird gets bourbon and brown sugar rubbed, applewood smoked meat.
Fired Weber up at 6:00 am, gonna go 4-4-2 on this bad boy.

You’re gonna have to show the finished product on that!

I have got to be to be the luckiest guy alive. I get to sit one more afternoon to deer hunt, but this weeekend is special to me. After postponement, my two college roomamates got to come up and hunt on our annual hunting trip. The food, drink, stories, laughing, and the outdoors. It gets no better. We started hunting together in college 35 years ago, and we still are going strong. Just a little slower and a little more fatter.

Nothing better man. We have a 2 generation group (my Dad, uncle, and their friends - plus us "kids" and our friends) who do a trout weekend in the spring and a deer weekend in the fall. Usually about 15 make it. You just can't beat it.

I forgot to get one before I pulled it. Grabbed the bone with 2 fingers and it slid right out without a spec of meat attached. Here are the leftovershttps://i.postimg.cc/05z2xW7W/47-BD2-A50-3-FFD-4-E2-F-87-AB-9-E7675-ECBCEC.jpg

That’s awesome man

Prediction? Pain.

Awesome, man. And the "slower and fatter" comment is hilarious. I've avoided the "fatter" so far, but you could replace that with "gimpier," "weaker," "sleepier," and "quicker to annoy the hell out of just by being in the same room."

Prediction? Pain.

Did red beans and rice with some collards this weekend. The finished product wasn't all that photogenic, but I got a nice shot of the giant pile of cured meat that went into the pot:

That's a ham hock from Benton's Smokehouse in Madisonville, TN (if you've never had their bacon, stop what you're doing and order a box; it's phenomenal) resting atop a couple of pounds of Cochon Butcher's tasso and a Chattanooga butcher's local-pork andouille, all of which was browned in a pot of Benton's bacon grease. (The bacon didn't make it back into the pot. My kids ate it as I was cooking.)

The tasso's spicier than I thought it'd be, so the beans have more kick than they normally do. Fine by me.

Also went for a 2.5 mile hike Saturday morning, which turned out to be about a half mile more than my gimpy knee could handle. Whatever, though. Saw some nice remnants of our recent freeze.
