Looking at his previous stops, seems there's a disturbing trend...

S&P+ defense rankings:
2011 vandy = 32nd
2012 = 41st
2013 = 47th
2014 penn st = 3rd
2015 = 16th
2016 tenn = 52nd
2017 = 68th

Total defense goes with the same trend... each year yds/game went up. Looks like shoop's first year is his best.

Go pull the stats on graduating players and recruiting for those teams. TN was a dumpster fire, PSU was a dumpster fire when he started there, Vandy is Vandy.

All of those defenses finished Top 25 in total defense outside of his 2 TN years. 6 out of 8 seasons coaching in D1 he had Top 25 defenses. So even if they took a small step back they were still very good.

Total Defense
2018 - MSU (1)
2015 - Penn St (15)
2014 - Penn St (2)
2013 - Vandy (23)
2012 - Vandy (19)
2011 - Vandy (18)

6 Top 25 Defenses - 5 Top 20 Defenses - 3 Top 15 Defenses - 2 Top 3 Defenses

None of those defenses were ever #1 under Shoop. Go find me a stat where it's even comparable. The only talent comparable was Penn State. Going from #3 to #16 isn't a gigantic drop off in football stats.

Never said it was. Just said there is a clear trend that his defenses dropped each year.

When did I complain in this thread? I've been an adamant supporter of shoop since he got here. I loved the hire and I love the extension. I just found it interesting and posted it. Had there been a clear pattern of getting better, I'd have posted it too.

A lot of our fans(use that term loosely) are on edge right now. I saw nothing wrong with your post.

I'm worried about this team going forward-except for the Defense and Kicking game. We will have a great Defense next year--Shoop will get the job done. Our DBs will be a strength along with our linebackers.--We will have some young one step up on the DL. So worry about JOMO and let Shoop dominate on defense.

Maybe Whop was ready game 1? We will never know. He should have garnered atleast 30 snaps a game nonconferemce to let him grow into it. Seeing how we played against KY, FL, and Bama, might as well give him a ton of snaps then as well.
