Pretty much just Bill Clark left on the MSU fan coaching short list, correct?

Neal Brown if he can recruit is going to be a good coach. Holgerson was average at best this may be an upgrade for them.

Completely agree. Brown gets some good offensive talent and he may have WV back in the top 10. Holgerson was mediocre. I've surprised Houston wanted him.

West Virginia made a great hire.

Surprised it took so long for Brown to get a P5 job. He is an excellent coach.

Larry Blakeney did better at Troy than Brown. Never had understood the love there. He won 1 ship in 4 years.

Blakeney last 4 years before brown took over...
3-9
5-7
6-6
3-9

Once Troy joined the sunbelt, blakeney won 9 games 1 time in 11 years.

Here's Neal brown's 4 years at Troy...
4-8
10-3
11-2
10-3

Blakeney won the sun belt before app state joined

How do you know?

I consulted Mrs. Mary in meridian, ms. She saw it in the future**

No one knows how any hire will turn out, but I see a late-30s coach that turned a program around. 31 wins in 3 years is success Troy has never seen

Arkansas State has won it as many times as App State since they joined. Troy hasn't. Blakeney went from D2 to 1AA and won a title in the first or 2nd year. Won the Sunbelt when he moved to D1.

Blakeney- 5 titles in 5 years (2006-2010)
Brown- 1 title in 4 years

Brown won the sun belt last year and lost in the championship game 21-10 this year to Scott satterfield. Satterfield also got a P5 job this year. He's 3-0 in bowls. He beat LSU. He's 38-years-old... blakeney was 66 his last sun belt championship

ETA... blakeney made 5 bowls in 11 years at Troy in sunbelt, and lost 3 of them. Brown made 3 bowls in 4 years, and won them all

It's a solid hire on paper and will be fun to see how it works out since he was a guy a lot of MSU folks are high on

Blakeney's body of work was better. I'm not talking his last couple years. I'm saying he did more at Troy than Brown. He won championships. Went through 3 different divisions. Blakeney got old and got the place named after him. Brown couldn't win as much as Arkansas State.

WV is a weird job with a passionate fanbase. Tough recruiting and out of place in the Big 12.

Oooh Wee.....they got a good one! And this may help us since we have to go to Troy in the coming years....and play them once in Vegas.

Troy didn't make the Sun Belt Championship Game. That was App State and Louisiana Lafayette.

Ahhh... my bad. Thought that was championship game. Wiki says they made conference title game or win division. Guess they tied for division. Thanks

They're pulling an Ole Miss. They tied with App State but lost the head to head since they are in the same division.

How come nobody big offered Blakeney?

He was caught up in a scandal at Auburn that got them on probation if I remember correctly. When he first took the Troy job they were about the equivalent of Delta State- I think they actually used to play each other.

I've offered to take him out to eat. He hasn't taken yet. I would bet we know each other.

Dude came out to the basketball game today at Troy during halftime and addressed the crowd for a little over 3 minutes. That takes some damn big balls to do that. Class act right there.
