That is true but assuming a good DC comes in and they focus on recruiting especially in that area, they would tear it up.

They would be super dangerous if they could do that. To do that they're gonna have to start recruiting defensive players from the Deep South.

This is the issue, their recruiting base doesn't develop defensive players. Texas HS football once regarded as some of the best in the country is nothing but B12 development league.

We need to target Tx Hs for QB's and receivers. Even the OL looks to be wanting.

From 2009-2018, Oklahoma only finished below 5th in the big 12 in scoring defense once, this year. 4 times in that time period, they've finished 1st or 2nd in scoring defense. During that same time period, they were top 35 nationally in scoring defense 5 times. They were dead last this year in big 12. The defense is getting much worse with Riley running the show. If he wants to be the elite coach he's capable of, he needs to just get Oklahoma back to the top 35 national level where Oklahoma has proven they can be. Riley's offense with a top 35 scoring defense is a natty contender every year

Go look at their 2019 commit list. 4 star safety from Mater Dei in California. 2 4 star CBs, one from TN and one from FL. 4 star DE from Washington DC.

But 6 out of their Top 7 commits are offensive guys. So Riley is going out of state to get some of this talent on defense but knows you have to have the offense to win big. He's got a 5 star WR and QB (both 99 overall) , and another 4 star WR (97 overall) and a 4 star TE (96.5 overall). Add a 92 overall OG and a 94.5 overall OT and you can see why they are going to be hanging around for a while. He's gathering the pieces to try and compete with Bama.

They are looking at Pete Golding at Alabama and some assistant at Ohio State. I don’t think Shoop is on their radar nor am I sure he would want to go to the Big 12.

Not sure it’s that simple as just going out and hiring a good DC. Stoops was a good DC and Riley fired him. The Big 12 is a graveyard for good DCs. It’s just an offense driven league.

I’ll also add the kid had Mike Stoops and Ruffin McNeil as his DCs (McNeil was the interim). He didn’t just have good DCs he had great ones and that was the defense he had.
