Iowa chartered a flight and flew out around noon yesterday. Arrived 2 hours later.

There were no troubles.

Midwest is has been clear in December.

Easy flight out.

So how many crop dusters did it take and did they duct tape them to the wings to save money?

Not certain. :)

They have a $130M athletic budget and don't skimp on logistics for the football team.

And, the B1G has revenue sharing across bowl games. So they usually end up net positive after all is said and done for the bowls.

LOL!

Well, the guy at the beginning of the clip on the fuselage does look like Kirk Ferentz, so it very well could be.

I wish the SEC had that kind of money.

I'm not saying they didnt actually leave yesterday but when I was coming into starkville this morning 3 or 4 of the State Charter Buses were getting into 82 E headed in the direction of the airport with a MHP escort

Big Ten Network. $50M a year per school.

I wish that Iowa had the kind of players most SEC teams have.

Certainly it's about wins. But it's also about money - big time.

So there.

Correct.

Checked it. 8 from the SEC are ahead of Iowa in terms of annual revenue.

Iowa is a state with 3 million population and is 4th in the B1G in terms of budget (behind Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State - very populous states).

No doubt the BTN has been a boon to our budget.

Not trying to compare Iowa with the southern schools in terms of funds - and very envied relative to the talent SEC teams bring in.

Just saying, Ferentz is an ex-NFL coach and the longest tenured FBS coach in the land with a lot of power...he doesn't cut corners on operations.

That's it.

Peace.

They have a couple of major airports, with over a million passengers each per year. That's a bit unusual for a state with no tourism to speak of, and no really large cities.

Jim Bob's quick change ran out of oil during maintenance work at the GTRA. They had to wait a couple days until Brent Crude dropped below $50 PB. Then, they put in for a large contract offer. Jim has to make money you know and timing the market is critical.

Less than 5% larger, but Iowa has grown faster than Mississippi. Neither state would be considered 'booming' however.

State usually charters Southwest Airlines, but some of the bean counters decided to charter Miami Air instead. Plane was broke. When everything was working the team had to wait for the pilots who were late. Hope they just stick with Southwest next time. JoMo was pissed.

Iowa State seems better than you guys.

Iowa and Iowa State are pretty equal this year. Both are 8-4.

Iowa State is #24, Iowa unranked,

Iowa State is on the rise with an excellent young coach in Matt Campbell.

Iowa beat Iowa State 13-3, at Iowa. 2nd game of the year.

Imagine you guys playing the Egg Bowl in early September - what would that look like?

ISU plays Wazzu tonight in the Alamo Bowl. Watch that game. It should be pretty dang entertaining. The Cyclones have a really good defense (not at the MSU's level, but probably the best in the Big XII) and an entertaining offense.

Watch for David Montgomery (RB) - he is a tough dude to bring down (had more yards after contact than any FBS running back last year and probably this year as well). Their freshman QB is a fun watch as well.

And, in fairness, Wazzu has a pretty fun team and the most interesting coach in the land.

It's always possible that Southwest didn't have a plane and/or flight crew available. I wonder what it costs to charter a roundtrip plane that'll hold maybe 150 people? Do they also take the equipment down on separate buses/truck? I'm sure the trip is quite expensive.

We try not to land in the corn fields - that creates a mess. An NEVER in soybean fields, as that's where the big $$$ is.

Just ease 'er down on the highway and you'll be good. Plenty of friendly folks around who will give you a ride into town.

Nah, we always have planes available for charters. I was looking for it so I could grab it and fly the team down. My Dad who also flies for Southwest got to fly the team to the LSU game a couple years ago. I reached out to my contact at the school and they said it was a money decision. No this wasn?t a cheap shot at Cohen, he wasn?t the one who made the decision and I?m sure he was pissed as well. I?m sure Cohen has more important things to deal with than being the team?s travel agent.
