They were having a problem understanding commits visiting, one commits family called our coaches and said not to worry but we can't afford not to visit up there. New staff members got clued in to what was up and the red backpacks on the bed when they got to the inn, and it blew their mind. So suffice to say the more things change the more they stay the same. They just can't stop its ingrained in their DNA.

What is the NCAA going to do? Banned them from a bowl they were not going to make anyways? I think that's what the rule should be. You are banned in the year you are eligible to go to a bowl.

I think death becomes them now. I don't see how they win six next year. They are going to have to cheat to get quality recruits. I hope they do get busted again.

The NCAA won’t even sniff in their direction. They’ve gotten the all clear and it’s about to get ugly. I live here in Oxford and all you have to do is eat at the right establishments during the right times and you can hear all that is going on. They are proud of what they get accomplished.

We've only had 1 commit OV to OM this year. So you're saying he told this to our staff?

I am in Oxford regularly and I do agree with the part about eating at the right place to find out things.

Yep, " we can't afford not to take the visit, but everything is ok, we are still coming" was the quote. They took the cash just to visit and still won't go play there. You would think they would get tired of recruits taking their cash and going elsewhere.

I just find it hard to believe that there are no smart phone videos of these red bag packs given the smart phone technology age we are living in.

An investigation would be the only thing that would harm them. We know the eventual NCAA punishment would again be toothless.

This and they wouldn't be dumb enough to use "red" backpacks.

They'd at least use an off color, maybe maroon or crimson. No shot they use red or blue

There are way too many OM boosters that would rather there be no OM football program if they can't be directly involved in the recruiting process. For some, its apparently what they live for.

No one is handing anything to anyone, their corrupt not stupid. And why not red, just part of OV swag.

The NCAA will leave them alone as long as kids don?t start committing to them over Bama, UGA, and Florida. They don?t care about kids like Leo Lewis getting $10,000. They care about kids like Tunsil showing up out of the blue and the family moving to Oxford and living 10 times above the means they were living previously.

One would say continuing to blatantly cheat while being investigated would be stupid as well. They did not have to pay for it so they will not stop.

I have an uncle who is a OM Cigar Boy. He told me he took $3-5K in 20,50, and 100 dollar denominations in a brief case to Oxford every year back in the day. It was his contribution to their big recruiting weekend. Other OM Cigar Boys did it too. He even showed me one briefcase full of cash.....this was about 10 years ago. He has since passed. And yes, I reported it to the NCAA years ago. They said they would log it and take a look into it. I never heard from them again, but it may have had some input into the last round of NCAA issues for the Rebs. And yes, as the poster above said.....a lot of this money ended up on the beds or under pillows of recruits hotel rooms as a gift from the tooth fairy! So, it does happen.

Yeah, I never understood why every recruit doesnt take all the money they are offered and just go wherever they want. It's not like the school is going to rat you out. Just don't take money from the school you are actually going to attend. No harm no foul.

Leo Lewis disagrees. However doing so makes it buyer beware to any recruit that takes money from them which probably means a lot of recruits won't visit them- and if they won't visit they aren't going to Ole Miss.

Just another reason why they are stupid to try to sue and blame Leo Lewis instead of just taking their medicine. Of course they are too good to do that.**

Any one who would give their hard earn money to a complete stranger knowing that that stranger may not even come to Ole Miss just to show off to their friends are not real smart anyways.

Thing is, a lot of that "hard earned money" isn't that hard earned for a lot of those type of people.

I didn't want his money. He inherited some furniture factories in N.Miss….made a killing....then sold them before he ran them into the ground. He was always flaunting his success around me, because he knew I went to MSU. I sort of resented it and was the reason I called the NCAA about it.

Basically, they used smaller amounts to fish the recruits. Then, they were guaranteed a lot more if they signed, played, and produced.

Ole Miss has a slush fund for recruiting. They go around asking friends of the program to donate to the cause and have a select few that go around giving it to the bag men for recruits. A lot of these people paying their recruits aren’t big time money guys (look at the NOA for proof). They have a whole lot of middle class white guys that wished they had money who give to the cause and get to feel like they are someone with some inside scoop.

They are doing a horrible job of being all in this year if that's the case.

I think it's the opposite. No one wants to give anything until Gus is gone. Only money to buy him out. Don't see it happening this year though.
