United win MLS Cup!

What a club.
Those of us who were part of the "first wave" of Atlanta Youth soccer in the 70s and 80s have been waiting a long time for this.

Over 73,000 in attendance and aired on "Fox" not "Fox Sports". When high school football season ends, soccer starts up in the winter in many parts of the country. Looking forward to see more athletes getting paid.

Get ready for the big stars to get plucked by European clubs now. Rumors around Newcastle are that they?ve already got a deal worked out for Almiron at around $19m. There were definitely Newcastle reps were at the MLS Cup.

Great seeing Americans competing for big GLOBAL MONEY against the Africans and South Americans. Contracts in Europe are not revocable by just cutting a player like in the NFL?

And Tata is going home to coach the Mexican National Team. As long as they have the front office and they keep the same philosophy they should be good.

Well the $19m number is what Newcastle would pay Atlanta for Almiron. Based on what Newcastle is paying their current players, his contract would probably be in the range of $3.4m-4.6m/year. I don't really know the contracts work in European soccer with regards to guaranteed money, but I feel like players are rarely cut. If they are a bust they just get sold to a team in a lesser league, which gives me the impression that contract money is probably guaranteed.

I agree. Atlanta is using the model that everyone in the MLS should have been using for a long time: sell young, talented Central and South Americans on getting to live in America while proving themselves to the big boy European leagues. Getting Ibrahimovich and Wayne Rooney to come play in the MLS at 35 years old is cool, but it doesn't raise the profile of the league.

Atlanta payed whatever club Almiron came from $8m for him. If the rumors of $19m are true, then they're looking to profit $11m on him just in transfer fees. Let alone merchandise, and all of the windfalls of being the best team in the league and winning a championship.

Almiron gave an interview about a month ago talking about his desire to play in the Premier League next year. Martinez and Almiron both probably play in Europe next year.

Seems like Atl is hoping to get one more year out of Martinez before he makes the jump. And it's been confirmed they met the $17m release clause for a different Martinez that's supposed to be a superstar midfielder for River Plate, one of the Argentine powerhouse clubs.

Atlanta is running their club like the rest of the world does. Chess, while the rest of the MLS is playing checkers.
