Game ended on a Offensive Pass Interference call on what would have been the game winning TD by Madison Central.

Starkville was dominating early, and Madison caught a Hail Mary at the end of the half to cut it to 7. Not much defense played in that one apparently

MC completes a walk-of winning TD pass. Called back for offensive pass interference. Ballgame. Starkville wins.

I think it's childish of the MC assistant coach to bitch on twitter about "THE REFS STEAL A GAME FROM THE KIDS!!" Well, If the mC WR pushed off and the refs DIDNT call the penalty, wouldn't the refs be "STEALING A GAME FROM THE KIDS!!" From Starkville? Silly argument, unless it was an obvious poor call.

One of Bobby Hall's big calling cards among his supporters is his District Titles. Of course, that's a lot like Stansbury's SEC West titles.

To add on- Hall's teams are consistently sloppy and they sleep walk through games. It really was only a matter of time before this happened.

Why wasn't there an untimed down? Period can't end on an accepted penalty.

True. But it seems silly to give a team another chance because they made a penalty.

Incorrect. The game or half can't end on a DEFENSIVE penalty.

I think they either have to accept the results of the play or walk it off 15 yards and replay the down on an offensive penalty too, unless that penalty is a loss of down (like an illegal forward pass).

Please tell me you are not a football ref because you are flat out wrong. Go to the NFHS website and check it out. Rule 3-3-3: an accepted foul against either team results in an untimed down at the end of any period (not just the end of a half or game) except for some odd penalties not relevant in this case.

If he had to be restrained by Police, will there be any punishment? Not a good role model for a Head Coach and AD to be stopped by police.

Guys I saw cell phone video at the Madison breakfast circuit this morning.

It was an obvious bad call. The defender slipped and it was an easy completion. It will be on YouTube soon.

Bobby Hall has been on the other side of situations like this many, many times in his career. I don't feel for him one bit. Sucks for the kids, but you HC got some karma last night.

It wasn't. It happened and the ref had to call it. Happened early in he play.

Wasn't there, but somebody said the ref didn't drop the flag until he saw the player score.

I was and that somebody was wrong. There should have been an untimed down though with the obvious accepted penalty.

If anybody here is from North MS and remember what Bobby Hall and Mike Scott did in 2000. Bobby was at Amory and Mike was at Shannon. Anybody know how that game unfolded?

Only a matter of time before MC was screwed out of a game by officials?

I think what he is saying is since they don't go all out on every play and put the game away when they had the chance only a matter of time before a game of theirs would be decided by the officiating since it was close. As we all know, that is a precarious position at best to be in.

Only a matter of time before MC lost because of their sloppy play. MC seems to always beat people like Jim Hill 45-28 with 10+ penalties. Usually there is at least one gam that is close- like Murrah last year.

I stand corrected, and I understand the reason the rule exists. Just seemed wrong at the time and I was pulling for Starkville. My guess is that the kid did that because he didn't think the ref would have the guts to make the call. And that would be a good bet.

What was dumb is that hall didn't kick the fg to tie the game.

FlabLoser
10-19-2013, 09:45 AM
I haven't seen it.

Is is possible the ref made the call late because he wasn't gonna call a foul that didn't make a difference in the game? Like not calling a hold away from the play.

gravedigger

I just talked to a miss high school ref. he says the flag was probably delayed because it's hard to maintain focus on the play in case of another foul like face ask or a fumble. I didn't think it was that delayed bc of where the flag was thrown but I could have been mistaken on that.

Of course the reason for the exception on the untimed down is to prevent 17 untimed downs with the receiver hoping for one play where the ref doesn't see the foul.

Whoever Matthew Stevens is, he needs to update his rulebook. Under last year's rules he would have been correct (because Offensive Pass Interference carried a loss of down). Not so anymore.

Rule 10-1-6 . . . The following fouls by A include loss of the right to replay a down:

a. Illegally handing the ball forward.

b. Illegal forward pass.

c. Illegal touching of forward pass by an ineligible.

Should have been an untimed down.

So in addition to being an Ole Miss fan and recruiter, he's now emulating Freeze?

gravedigger

A coach had to be restrained. Not sure if it was fat bobby though. Some coach was running with the ref's and the security guard stopped him and got in his face about the 10 yard line and stopped him and they pointed at each other while the ref's got out of there.

Funny thing, the argument was over the wrong thing. Hall is an ole miss prick. But he's a good high school coach, no doubt. Freeze went after a fan because he couldn't take the criticism. Big difference.

Rumor is he emulates Freeze in more than one way.
