Ryan Day already named as replacement. Not sure that's the right move. Screams of recruiting desperation but why you wouldn't at least call Chris Peterson, Bob Stoops, or Brian Kelly to hear them out is beyond me.

Bob stoops esp. I'll give urban one thing though... dudecan recognize offensive coaching talent, so I'll have no surprise if day is a stud

Very well could be. (Just like the heart problems he had in FL)

He has the option to drain it which is exactly what he did in 2014. Not sure how risky the surgery is though.

Not sure why everyone acts like urban fakes illness. The dude is one of the all time greats, and has no reason to make some sort of excuse. He's 186-32 (.853) as a HC with 3 natties, 7 conf championships, and 11 bcs bowls/playoffs. He's cam newton stealing a vcr away from having another title. He's freaking 82-9 (.907) at Ohio st... he's not running from crap

I'm not saying his health issues aren't real. I'm just saying that they are an awfully convenient reason to step down whenever he feels like the pressure has gotten ratcheted too high..

I think I heard them report on Sportscenter the other night that it can't be drained anymore.

What pressure is he feeling? He's been to 6 straight bcs/NY6/playoffs with 3 big 10 titles and a natty in the last 6 years.

The way the Big 10 is set up makes it hard for the conference champ to make it to the playoff. He's expected to make it to the playoff every single year.. you don't see that as pressure?

I like Urban and he's an all-time great. But just being in the public eye continuously carries a lot of pressure with it. That can be true of just an upper-level executive that has a lot of folks looking to them for direction. So the pressure is there.

ETA: Most "pressure" is internally generated anyway.

Ohio st fans aren't stupid. It's like a 98% chance they downgrade when urban leaves. I don't see them getting ready to run his off at all

There's always pressure unless you're winning every single one of your games comfortably because most sports fans are morons.

I'm sure the medical conditions are real, but I think he's obviously not quite as thick-skinned as the average high-level college coach (just watch him on the sidelines when things aren't going well), and likely extra-susceptible to stress-induced physical ailments.

OSU will stick with Day for next season. Secures their recruits and gives him an opportunity at a full season.. I think he will do well if he can replace Schiano

Exactly. Health reasons always when it's convenient for Urban. Knowing what was going on at UF, that heart thing was either a fabrication, or also just as likely Urban's stress manifests itself as physical illness.
Until proven otherwise, I believe he uses this to his advantage to get out of sticky situations.

Weird choice... jumping on a sinking ship. Wonder if he thinks Helton could be fired in season leaving him interim with a shot at the job

Maybe...they do have some offensive pieces to work with and a pretty big up tick in performance for him could lead him into another spot as HC.

I?m not sure the superdome is large enough to house the egos of two smug prick coaches at one time. Payton already fills the dome up with his. Meyer May create a toxic situation. And I?m a saints fan.

Doesn't urban have the highest winning percentage lifetime as a head coach, that is of current head coaches.
