Great person. Will be missed badly. I was fortunate enough to meet and speak with him and Barbara in the late 90?s. I got their autographs and they were both so friendly and asked me way more questions than I asked them. Great people and great US citizens.

Seeing him at the Arkansas game was the only time I have ever seen a President in real life. He was a great American.

Buddy of mine, when we were 1st Lieutenants at Ft Huachuca, AZ for the Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course, were due to be promoted. H.W, was six months into his administration. My friend had met him and gotten a photo when he was enlisted. As a joke, a month before our promotion ceremony to Captain, my friend sends an invite to pin his rank and attend our class party for that month's promotees.

3 days prior to the event the White House calls the commandant of the school and advises "The President expresses his regret that he cannot attend Lt Daras's promotion and party. He does send his best wishes' etc, etc.

From that point on my buddy was a made man. The entire staff thought he was some ultra connected political child of privilige. We ragged him pretty hard but it was cool that a sitting President made those kind of efforts. I heard other similar tales while I served. He was a good one.

Prediction? Pain.

I encourage anyone who hasn't seen the American Experience documentary about George H.W. Bush to check it out. It's on YouTube (not full resolution, unfortunately), but may also be streaming on your local PBS website (https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/americanexperience/films/bush/).

I had no idea before watching that how dedicated a public servant he was his entire life.

I take it you didn't think much of either of the Bush presidentcys. Just an educated guess on my part.

I was in college at Mississippi State University when George H. W. Bush became POTUS41. I was the pianist at a VIP reception at Dr. Zacharias's home when President Bush was our commencement speaker in May 1989. When Desert Storm came around in 1991, I remember being interviewed for a local television report about my thoughts on the war and on my response to any potential draft. I said I supported President Bush with regard to both Desert Shield and Desert Storm, that I didn't think it was even remotely likely that the conflict would lead to a resumption of a military draft, but that if it did escalate in that way and I was needed, I'd be honored to serve my country in any way I could. I remember the protests on campus, with vulgar and hateful comments and signs about Bush, Quayle, Schwartzkopf, etc. Plus ca change...

While I never voted for him, I can say without hesitation that he was a true hero among heroes of the Greatest Generation. George Bush, along with millions of his counterparts, answered the call and saved the world from tyranny. I did not agree with him politically, but I never lost a moment of sleep knowing he was "at the wheel".
Friends, the Greatest Generation is slowly leaving us, and that fact brings me great sadness.

It?s sad that there are people in this world that think like this. We all make mistakes and have our own opinions, But it is another level of hatred and disrespectfulness to say something like this.

Watch out, we got a big brained NPC over here.

HW wasn’t nearly as bad as his son as far as presidencies go but he was a main leader of the WASP coalition that sold our country out from the ‘65 Immigration Act through NAFTA.
