He was a preseason front runner for the Heisman. Now seeing reports he will transfer. #SumlinEffect

Somewhat related side topic. Noel Mazzone is the OC at Arizona. Should be a familiar name to everyone on the board having been OM OC a couple different times. I'm too lazy to look up his actual performance at various stints (he might actually be decent), but why in the hell has that guy been recirculated so many times. He's coached EVERYWHERE.

Not sure he'd be interested in coming south, but his rating, yds per pass, and number of td passes are all better than KB. He's also a very good runner

He was with OM in the late 90s, I think... don't know if he did USC or NFL...

Would make sense. Tate would excel in the Nick Marshall QB role in my opinion

Pretty sure he went with Tubberville to Auburn also. Think he had early success and got the boot later.

Mazzone was also the person that Croom was supposedly going to replace McCorvey with if he got another year. Thank God Byrne didn't agree with that.

I've watched Tate play a lot. He's extremely fast and athletic, but he's not a passer. He's a rb playing qb.

He would be but I think 7's right, he's a california kid and he'll probably wind up at ucla, or somewhere else in the west.

Passer rating is 149.77. That's 29th in the country and better than minshew, Herbert, and lock. Last year he was 14th in the country in passer rating; Bryant was 60th.

Career passer rating is 146.3; fitz is 123.9. Why is this board is enthralled with comp % as the end all, be all of qb evaluation? Jack Abraham of usm s the nations top comp % guy and stockstill of mtsu is 2nd... obviously the best QBs in the country. Tua and Murray are 1-2 in rating. Which metric you think tells the best QB?

Nobody is saying completion % is the end all be all but it's a pretty damn important stat. The QB rating has a lot of flaws as well. QB rating gives you way more credit for throwing fewer Ints even if you throw for less yardage & less TD's. Case in point Jake Fromm has 179.4 QB rating with 69% 2236yds 24tds 5ints. While Will Grier QB rating is 175.5 with 67% 3864yds 37tds & 8ints & even worse Dwayne Haskins has a QB rating of 171.7 with 69% 4081yds 42tds & 7ints. Can you explain how Fromm QB rating is higher even though the other 2 guys clearly outperformed him?

Now here is one who is comparable to Fitz. The knock on him is he cannot pass.

Because the higher percentage, the more catches and the smoother th........Why are we having to explain why completion percentage is important? Really? Why the hell did Moorhead say he needed 65% completion percentage from his QB for his offense? Maybe you can take this up with Moorhead, you obviously know more about this than him. smh

At some point the money people at Auburn is going to get feed up with having to grab transfers every year. They might say anything while he is winning but he is going to have a few average years and it will be a nail in the coffin. Go get a high school guy while you grab transfers and develop him in the process.

He's the perfect QB for Gus or Mullen. Honestly getting a Khalil Tate or KB might be the only thing to save Gus' job. Which actually could work in our favor for KB since the boosters might be less willing to make church donations this time.

Fromm in 233 passes has 24 td passes (1 td every 9.7 passes) and 9.6 yds/pass

Grier in 397 passes has 37 td passes (1 td every 10.8 passes) and 9.7 yds/pass

Haskins in 455 passes has 42 td passes (1 td every 10.8 passes) and 9.0 yds/pass.

If they all threw the same amount of passes as Haskins and maintained rate...

Haskins 42 td
Grier 42 td, but higher yds/pass
Fromm 47 td

Higher comp % is almost always horizontal passing. Look at the correlation between comp % and yds/pass

QB rating is all about your numbers per pass attempt. Fromm threw way fewer passes than Grier or Haskins. His per-pass numbers are actually better than both. Barely fewer yards per attempt than Grier (which is hugely important for QB rating) and higher than Haskins; and a better TD-per-attempt ratio than either one.

Speaking of espn's qbr, it didn't like Tate at all this season (#49). It loved Tate last season... Tate #2, fitz #14, Bryant #17. Fitz not even in top 50 this year

They must have removed or severely reduced the impact of QB rushing.

Tate's rushing went from 1400 last season to 200 this season. Not sure why sumlin didn't use his running ability more

UCLA is focused on just ONE QB and he is a junior who weighs about 240 and is about 6ft 6in with top end speed. The thing that distinguishes him is his accurate throwing. UCLA will not cloud their recruiting of this junior with a Tate distraction? Check out the Youtube file.

How you pronounce his name? Ukelele ???

Very VERY raw kid. If you've ever seen the series QB1, which I highly recommend, he's featured prominently in the second season as the backup for Re-Al Mitchell, who's now at Iowa St. Ukelele takes over in a couple of games early in the season and eventually gets the starting job. Not a very polished passer, but my god he's a battering ram at the high school level.
