Strange job, Chapel Hill is. Wealthy University, beautiful area, large metro airport nearby, cozy stadium, but less interested in football than NC St, WF, East Carolina, and now possibly Duke, with an increasingly liberal student body. It's a weird job for football. It's kinda like the east coast version of Cal.

They were monsters in the 90's with Mack Brown there.

Kind of seems like a lesser version of A&M to me. Has all the check marks needed to be a really good football program but never seems to be able to get off the ground.

Different because they don't have a football culture there.

I'd say more like Kentucky with more money and prestigious education.

For regular students - absolutely!

For student athletes and the history of academic fraud - not so sure....

Don?t be surprised if Mac Brown is a name popping up for this job

Obviously they have some serious problems at UNC. Some of it documented, some of it probably not. And I know Mack was there for 10 years, but the dude is 67. This would be a 2-3 year hire max to clean up their program and fix the foundation.

They are probably like the Ole Miss job. No one will touch it except a coach with significant ties. Mack Brown is a stopgap to clean it up for the next person.

It was popped up before Fedora was officially out. Look for Gene Chizik to be DC/HC in waiting

Probably so, but he has had some recharge time, so who knows. He was great at one time, but yeah, that time has most likely passed

Meh. We will see. If he takes a CEO approach and hires good OC and DC and let?s them coach it could work out fine for them. He had a good history, NC ring, and is still well respected.

Mack Brown expired years ago and Chizik is a douchebag. NC keeps making these kinds of hires. Fedora is one of the biggest snake oil salesmen in the business.

The correct hire was too obvious. You have a really good young & energetic coach in the same state who's avg 10 wins a season the last 4 years. Scott Satterfield should've been the 1st & only choice. A North Carolina native who coaches at a North Carolina school who has been very successful.

Ehh. A coach who hasn't coached in 5 going on 6 years. Who was on the down hill at Texas. He started the Texas slide. He had 9 straight years of 10+ wins at Texas but didn't win 10 games in any of his last 4 seasons.

Mack Brown could barely talk on his tv gig. I'm amazed he gets job offers for anything.

Who knows they could have put feelers out to Scott Satterfield and he turned them down. Who knows what channels they exhausted before going with Mack

Prediction? Pain.

I'm a fan of Satterfield's (and of App. St. and the Boone area in general). In his second year at App. St., they jumped straight from the FCS to the FBS and actually improved their overall record. In the school's first five years in the FBS, he's 34-6 in conference play and 46-16 overall.

IYOK, why do you think he hasn't been hired away before now? Maybe being downgraded because of his school's traditional success (albeit in the FCS ranks)? Or is that he's a loyal App. St. alum who won't leave unless it's an opportunity too good to pass up?
