These things are so subjective, really no way of getting accurate account. They have the Blackbears 8th. Wow.Didn't see that coming. Florida #1.

One ranked #2...one ranked #9- bottom line, we have a top 6-7 class in the country. And we have another lining up to be close to the same next year

And I think the best of all of them will be the one after next year (2015). That class is lining up to be one of our best ever.

Yeah Coach, but you know the blackbears are gonna be bragging to hell and back that they had a better recruiting class than we did even though we finished runnerup at the cws. You know those people.

The difference between our recruiting classes and the bear recruiting classes is what we do with them once they arrive on campus.

Three years ago, Im sure the bears' recruiting class was ranked top 10, and this year they are a fringe NCAA team while we are a consensus top 10 team.

Sure its nice to have talented freshman, but you have to do something with them once they get here.

A lot of it was/is political. They had certain people bashing our program to some of the leaders in collegiate baseball recruiting- like Kendall Rodgers (Perfect Game), and Aaron Fitt (Baseball America). They would say stuff like we were a "dead program" to those guys- and if you live in Georgia and North Carolina- they're not going to know any better. At that time, those experts were led to believe that they were the baseball program in the state- even though we still had really good support despite the product on the field.

Some of it is how we recruit- we do get our share of Renfroe's- but we also get our share of Ross Mitchell's. Some of our hustle guys may hurt us a little bit in recruiting rankings- but they help us win games by doing a lot of little things right and pushing the more talented guys.

That's why I've always disagreed with people when they say "if you have a bunch of seniors on your team, you didn't evaluate the talent right". You need to have a good mix of players.

You and me both. You have to have a good mix and team chemistry. That's why I will always like us taking guys like Paxton Stover or Taylor Stafford from New Hope to go along with the Vallot's and Riley's. The different types of players help eachother and push the whole team to get better.

Lets remember we didn't offer Renfroe until his senior year, which is extremely late in the game for baseball recruiting. So sometimes you get lucky too.

Exactly, and the Bears didn't even offer, his high school sweet heart's family are big bear supporters and that is where she went. So yeah we got lucky.

We got lucky? He hit well for 6 weeks in 3 years. We will miss his defense though

I don't know if I could say that was luck. Players mature differently in high school. Some are like Austin Riley, Jake Mangum, and Luke Alexander- obvious talents even as freshmen. Some are like Renfroe- they burst onto the scene later on as they mature physically. Guys like Hunter Renfroe are why Cohen saves a few spots for the spring signing period- every year there are talented players that emerge their senior year.

And that doesn't even include the guys from really small towns that sometimes get overlooked just because they played in the middle of nowhere.

That's dead on. Because we all know Ross Mitchell got us zero recruiting points and we were laughed at when we signed him. I think we came out ok on that one!

Rankings give us something to brag on, maybe future recruits like it but winning on the field is it. If you don't work and get better then it doesn't matter. Developing a player is key in baseball
