Prayers for Jeremiah Williams, the DB injured from Greenville. Haven't seen anything new since I read he was transported on to Memphis.

Something must have happened to his airway for them to go with an on scene trach. That's definitely not good

A tweet I saw said a defibulator was used on the field as well.

Any update on the player?

Last I heard he was in the ICU at UMC and is possibly going to be transferred to Memphis.

I don't think a tracheotomy was performed. It was rather an intubation. A tracheotomy involves an incision in the neck to insert the tube. An intubation inserts the tube through the mouth. I'm not a doctor, so maybe someone can clarify. Obviously it is serious either way.

Paw, your description was on point. I am with Alpha. Intubation is the typical flow. For them to have done a trach, something must've gone very wrong. Let's hope that was just bad info.

An intubation is clearly different from a in the field trach. We as paramedics can't perform trachs, but can do needle crics if the airways is compromised. Aircare can perform trachs, I believe. So if it's true they did indeed do a trach then it something must have gone wrong with his airway.

Actually just heard that he fractured his C1 and C4 vertebrae. Those type of fractures are usually fatal. Proper procedure would have been to keep his helmet on and perform a jaw thrust maneuver during intubation. However, I could see the hesitation with that type of injury so aircare would have gone with a trach to secure an airway

Trach was 100% right call by the flight crew. Although more invasive it eliminates the threat of further damage in high fatal injury. Plus aircare has portable vents.
