View Full Version : Simmons - My favorite play from the A&M game

I'm not sure how many of you saw this, but with 5:30 left in the game, Simmons recognized the OL screen pass. He didn't make the play but he was the only DL to recognize it. He was literally 4 feet from the QB when he froze and changed his direction on a dime and chased the receiver to the sideline.

If you can go back, watch it. At his size and strength, its amazing how much athletic ability he has. And his football intellect is through the roof, as apparent with this play.

I tried to upload a couple pictures of the play but elitedawgs says its not a valid image file.

Are you talking about the play where the announcer was amazed at how JS went from one side of the field to the other?

Here are the pictures that I took as the play happened. First one is JS putting on the brakes. Second, JS is chasing the play before the throw.

I saw that one too. The screen was still successful because the RB was just a bit faster than him, but I saw him start to get penetration but then whip around 180 degrees when he sniffed it out and tried to stay on the RB's hip.

That play moved him up a draft spot. You can't teach those levels of instinct.

I saw that shit right away, buddy... it was one of the most impressive things I've seen this year....

He made himself a lot of (future) money with that diagnosis and effort...

A lot of announcers are saying things like #1 DT in the draft and I believe it. The Bama game could decide if Simmons or Sweat get into a top 5 type pick. Either or both have a big game at 2:30 CBS and they could vault even higher up draft boards. Simmons has leadership and football intelligence also it seems. He is the next Fletcher Cox in the making. MSU is getting to be DL U. There aren't that many universities with the type of DL talent playing on Sundays that has went through MSU.

I saw him 180 on when watching the replay on the jumbotron. I can see it was even more impressive on that replay.

I think he would have got him if our on player had not cut his feet out from under him. He had a hand on him.

Hey #660000 - Is that a video feed from MSU Media or your own recording. Couldn't be ESPN, to clear and a really sharp image. Great action shot too.

It's got the score format that ESPN uses on the screen. Pretty sure it's ESPN.

That's an impressive play by Simmons. Another one that stood out that the announcer keyed on was when Simmons ran sideline to sideline with a play and I believe ended up making the tackle at the end. He must of ran 60 yards on the play. Dude has a motor that never quits. NFL is drooling over a DT that plays that hard all the time and has his physical freakness.

It is a screen capture of the watchESPN replay. I was just too lazy to capture the sound in a nice way. I used my internal mic to capture sound.

McElroy was raving about a tackle on the goal line with the RB running with a head of steam. Simmons stops him dead in his tracks and throws him backward. He is a grown ass man.

Who's #41? He ****ed Simmons whiffing on that tackle. Simmons had him until #41 missed the tackle and knocked Simmons down.

Simmons just made himself some money on that play. You can't coach that.

That would be Mark McLaurin. If you are truly asking.

wished the video completed the play. JS grabbed the RB from behind and pulled him backwards for the tackle.

Boy, that runner better be glad Jeffrey's big a$$ didn't catch up with him, he was coming full bore. That might have been manslaughter!

I remember watching that play and thinking someone forgot their assignment then remembered it in mid stride.
Our defense is just incredible.
Also, I was so proud of J. Landrews. That young man (like others) has worked his ass off since high school to get this opportunity.

These plays and many others will cause a whole bunch of NFL GM's to develop amnesia to anything that happened with Big Jeff before he stepped foot on MSU's campus. I as a fan and alum are very proud of this young man, I wish him #1 pick! Hail State!

His grades, behavior and his community service since he’s arrived on our campus will be looked at to show that that was an anomaly. It won’t effect his draft stock one iota
