How would you determine who goes to championship game? Scheduling balance is hard enough as it is, wo divisions it's way worse. Extreme luck shouldn't decide anything.

You could do it like men's basketball where you have 3 permanent opponents, and rotate everyone else.

It's been luck the last 10 years if you happened to be in the SEC east.
