View Full Version : Here is what I would do if I was Joe/MSU

1. The FIRST thing I would do is replace Eiland with Phillips. That may or may not work but I'm willing to try it because what we are currently doing isn't working.

2. I start Fitz but if he continues to struggle I'm bringing Key in. Key may look bad in practice too- but we need to figure out if he can run this offense.

3. The other FIRST thing I would do as in today if I'm Joe is I change our total recruiting focus for this year. We need to bring in at least two Transfer/JUCO OT's, at least two Transfer/JUCO WR's, and probably most importantly- a JUCO or transfer QB that can run this offense.

There is zero reason why we shouldn't have the players to run this offense in year two in this day and age of college football. The only people that are "safe" in this offense for next year to me right now are Daryl Williams, Hill, Gibson, Mixon, Deddrick, Guidry, and Dontae Jones.

Now, if next year comes along and we look like complete shit again- if I'm Cohen I'm replacing Joe on an interim basis with Hud.

And then the next coach will be a guy that is from the South and knows how to recruit. Preferably has some connections to or is from Mississippi. We have to start being able to keep our best Mississippi recruits in state. If I'm the next coach around January I have a special cigar boy meeting every year and we talk about who the best players are and give them information on who we need to get them to MSU. And then I tell the cigar boys to do whatever you need to do to get them here but don't give me any details about it because this conversation never happened and I don't know anything about any of it.

I'll give Ole Miss credit here- this is what they did with Freeze. They hired a guy that knew Mississippi and the Ole Miss culture and were able to rebuild fairly quickly. And before anyone says it - no I don't think we should cheat outside of our state lines like they did or hire whores. But the NCAA has made it clear that it's game on in state- and I'm all for that. We keep hiring assholes from the North that think they are smarter than all of us. And to be honest- all three of our last coaches looked down on us. Croom, Dan, and probably Joe. We need someone that really knows OUR culture and doesn't look down on us. And being from Pittsburgh doesn't mean that it's just like the South.

We need Hud to keep learning and hopefully grow from his experience at ULL. Him being a successful HC at State would be the perfect fit for us. I’m just not sure if he is good enough though. I used to think he would be our best choice but those past few years at ULL scare me now.

I'm not sure either and I'm not necessarily saying that he should be the guy other than the interim guy. I think what hurt him at ULL was the NCAA investigation. But with MSU being his dream job I think it would be a lot different for him in many ways.

I honestly have no idea why any of you are hot and bothered by Hud. That seems hilariously bad. If we're going that route, why not Greg Knox? I trust him infinitely more. Hell, I was damn impressed with every aspect of our performance in the TaxSlayer Bowl. We played inspired when they had every reason to hang their heads and walk through the motions.

I agree with this also. Nobody is hot over Hud. Just think about it. It would be like ole miss hiring Freeze. He would have never left ole miss for a better job. I’m sure nobody thought he would go out and hire escorts with his work phone. I’m just saying Hud would never leave State. It would be perfect IF he turned out to be a good coach. Big if though.
