I just got a call from Hilton Garden in Starkville saying my 6 month old reservation has been cancelled for this weekend. I?m waiting on a call from the manager. Anybody have any experience in this scenario or have any advice what I should do or can do? Thanks in advance.

That's pretty messed up. I'd be irate and demand they find a room for me.

Tell them to put a mattress in the lobby for you or rent you a trailer and put it in the parking lot.

Looks like you got "Diamond" membered. The have to guarantee a room to a Diamond Elite Member within 48 hours of their call.

Well damn. I figured there wasn?t much I could do but I?m going to make a hell of a fuss if the jokers ever call me back.

I don't think you have any legal recourse for this stay and there is probably no way to get the reservation back. I would raise as much hell as possible and try to get as much out of them as I could such as free nights and other perks. Don't just deal with the manager go to corporate and try to get a free week in a hotel of your choice. It may not work but it's worth a shot.
If you don't get any satisfaction take to social media and blast them. Some bad publicity could help you get some satisfaction.

Are they at least comping you a room for the future or something? Complete BS. They should have to disclose prominently that you don't actually have a reservation, but that you are whatever number in line for a room for each room not claimed by whatever class of customer they will let bump you.

Ask them for fair compensation. A comparable room in the area, although that is not likely, then a comparable room and they cover any additional travel expenses for the trouble. The easiest route would be to likely try and get a voucher out of them for a free stay for a future game. Legally, I do not think they have to do anything, but they may be willing to do the right thing.

I appreciate all the advice. I?m at work right now and don?t have the time to continue to call. I have left a message with the manager and a representative with corporate. No return calls yet. The crap part about it is I live 4 hours away and this is my first game to go to since aTm in 2014. I?m going till try my best to squeeze them in a respectful manner. Thanks again.

Well since I travel so much, I'd call and tell them that I won't be staying on a Hilton property anymore, ever again. Hope canceling my room was worth losing 100+ stays per year. That's absolutely BS and is no different than price gouging during a natural disaster.

You're not the first that has happend to, and it's pathetic. About a month ago someone posted on SPS that the same thing happened to him. I think he said they offered him a free stay in Tupelo, but they should have thrown in a free limousine trip to the game and back.

Are they cancelling rooms for all the ESPN employees that come to the game? if that's true, that sucks

I?m assuming that?s the case due to the fact that 40 people had their reservations cancelled. I?ve still not spoken to anyone other than the poor lady at the front desk. Hopefully tomorrow I?m able to get some sort of resolution.

I would say it's because they could command $200+ per room and knocked out ppl that got theirs for $125, 6 months ago.

I'll bet it's a lot more than that.

No. And no I don't work for them but know someone that does. They are saying it's a problem generated from corporate. ESPN doesn't have rooms there. That's msu's home hotel.

I was looking for last minute options a couple weeks ago, so I figured I would let you know what options I found:

1) University Motel has some availability at least Friday night. The pictures make it look a little run down, but its an option. (Found it using google)
2) Hotwire has a room for Friday night for $134.
3) I booked a room down in Philadelphia at the Casino for Saturday night late last week.

Good luck

Ridiculous isn't it? You can stay for less in Manhattan ... the real one.

Will they screw people even when they prepay? And how long did you have to cancel a room? Even shittier if they takenpayment and don't reserve a room or if they can cancel later than you can.

See if there are any airbnb's available in there area. If so ask the hotel to pay for that. May be easier to find one of those than a vacant hotel room.

One week I flew from Jackson to Raleigh NC going through Atlanta. Cost 375.00 using Delta. Two weeks later I flew to Atlanta for 1175.00 using Delta. I use all Hilton Properties when I travel. I can reserve a room at one cost weeks out and a week before I leave I can reserve another room at the same hotel for less. I do that a lot. I get me a room reserve and later reserve another because it is less. Same with auto rentals. I have stopped trying to figure out why travel cost are the way they are and why they do what they do. Another pet pea is over booking of flights. I am just glad I don't get bumped from those. I have never been bumped from a Hilton property before.

There are only a few in Starkville and the one I tried to contact months and months ago never even responded.

I doubt this. I am a Hilton Diamond and have tried to get into the HGI on game weekends a few weeks out and been denied. They say they don't have to do it for "special events" even though that is not what the policy says. Hilton was no help.

In this case, I suspect the University did it. No idea why.

Just wanted to give an update. After great persistence and no return calls, I finally found out today that my original room will be open for me. The girls at the front desk were the only ones to answer my calls or talk to me. They ultimately came through in the clutch and all is well. Thanks for the advice again. See y?all Saturday.

Try Columbus. The "second tier" ones (like Quality Inn) don't have the two-night minimum policy and may still have rooms. The QI isn't all that bad. The 4 new ones think they're 5-star when it comes to game weekends.

I've found that staying in Columbus or Louisville is cheaper, more reliable, and you're still close enough to State to get in on the fun.

Hotel rates on football weekends in Starkvegas are just like how prices on everything go up after a hurricane disaster. Total Gouge! If I was a local Starkvegas, MS councilman, I would try to pass a law capping all hotel rates on football weekends to no more than $200 per night. Anyone caught charging more than $200 will be fined up to $10,000 per night of the said charging period.

I have posted this a bunch but you can park downtown anywhere. I park at Regions. I then ride the shuttle that leaves the Starkville daily news. You will be dropped off about 100 yards from the stadium at the Architecture building. You can hop on the shuttle to go back at any time. Free, easy and convenient. If the shuttle line is backed up you have about a 20 minute walk through the Cotton District.

That would be a great way to ensure new hotels aren't built I guess. WOuld probably get you a lot of votes from blue hairs who don't like all the growth.
