View Full Version : Key's redshirt is still alive

Just something to pay attention to here in the next couple of weeks. He's played in 3 games. Our next 4 games dictate wether we redshirt him or not I would think. If we are a 7-5 type team with Fitz I am redshirting Key. No way we ever bench the all-time SEC rushing leader at QB. We just have to be 7-5 with him but I wouldn't also just burn a year of Key just to have a backup on a 7-5 team. However if we get hot and start running the table on teams than I am burning his redshirt and putting him in at the end of all the games I can.

He should only play in 1 more game from here on out regardless if we are blowing teams out or not(unless Nick gets injured). We have three other qb's on the roster that can do a simple hand off to the RB to run out the clock.

I'm sure Mayden and Shrader would just love this...

Doesn't effect them either way

He's not redshirting. I don't understand why some of you can't understand that.

Things change. Moorhead can decide to redshirt him any time between now and his 5th game

He's only been used in two games looking at the box scores. SFA and ULL.

He played against K-State at the end of the game.

He’s not redshirting. If you do that, you create a log jam at QB that all but guarantees that Mayden or Shrader will transfer, and possibly both would. That’s the logic here I believe. KT is your starter for 2019 and 2020, then Mayden and Shrader battle it out in 2021.

Since Joe has already confirmed Key isn't redshirting, I can only assume you're talking about another type of redshirt still being alive.**

That's a problem that good programs face. If KT is good enough to beat out Mayden and Schrader in 2019 and 2020, then we want him to do it again in 2021.

I have a high opinion of Key. I'd like him to start for 3 years.

The plan is to get Key as many snaps as practicable while Nick gets all of the starts. Key has to be ready to go next fall. He's not red-shirting.

But does redshirting really make any difference vs. playing a few garbage time snaps here and there? I think not.

Even if it does, the investment potentially pays big dividends in 2021.

And to reiterate, the final decision doesn't have to come today. We could always "never mind" it if Fitz gets hurt or benched.

But what if fitz gets hurt after 5 more wins? I want a QB to go in that has been staying active in games.

Well to be fair, based on the new rules, Jeffrey Simmons' chance to redshirt is still alive. But it ain't gonna happen.

I would leave Key alone. Then redshirt Mayden this year. Then next year redshirt Schrader. This would space all of them out a bit and and prevent one of them from transferring. We really need all 3 in a nice order to keep success going at the QB position. Mayden and Schrader will overlap more, and just let them compete.

What makes me mad is Mayden got in for 1 snap against K-State. Why?

I have a feeling that Shrader is going to be the guy after Key more than likely.

What does it matter? He gets 4 games. He has one more chance to play basically. So we missed a chance???

HAHAHA...if Fitz has another game like UK, KT should play.

KT isn’t redshirting
Mayden will redshirt unless something drastic happens

Next topic....
