BA up 30 points over last year, 5 less HR's than last year but in 100 less AB's! Whatever it is, it appears he's finally figured it out! Tied for league lead in HR's at 14 since August 14 or something like that! Happy for him to prove all the naysayers wrong!

Good guy and I hope he makes millions for years to come. Dude stays out of trouble and loves his hometown plus Msu!

Adam Frazier is also on a tear. Batting almost .300 I believe.

And his HRs are freaking bombs too. None of them are cheap, barely over the fence shots.

Renfroe is a big dude. He hits tape measure HRs. He keeps it up he's going to be in the HR derby contest next year.

I would love to see what he would do in the HR hitting contest. He hits over 400 feet regularly. Side note: Story the SS on the Rockies just hit a 505 ft HR. That dude isn't that big either. He must have some crazy bat speed.

Agree on Frasier! We (me and my son) keep an eye on him as well! That 2013 team was crazy loaded looking back! Glad to see so many of them doing well!

Hunter in the HR derby would kill it no doubt! If he can find his way there, the ceiling would blow off his career. Not enough people know about his raw power.

Would like to see that clip of him throwing out the runner from the wall. Was unbelievable.

Renfroe's 162 game average over his career so far is (so if he actually played 162 games in a season or close to it) 36 HR & 91 RBI.

Bryce Harper's 162 game average over his career so far is 33 HR and 92 RBI.

He will never make it in MLB with those numbers.*****

Harper career ops = .901
Hunter career ops = .801

I really like hunter and really hate Harper, but Harper is a much better hitter

There's no doubt Harper is better. But they are very similar hitters in terms of power and strikeout rate and play the same position. Considering Harper makes $21 million and that is expected to go way up this offseason and Hunter makes $535K, there's little question who is the better value. If the Braves could get one or the other, I'd take Hunter in a second and not just because he's from MSU.

I was looking at Renfroe's stats this year versus last year. It can be hard to compare because of an unequal number of at-bats.

So I took Hunter's numbers and extrapolated them over 600 plate appearances (150 games with 4 plate appearances per game). Notice that I said 600 plate appearances, not 600 at-bats. Based on 600 plate appearances his stats would be this:

31.3 doubles and 32.5 homers in 2017
35.0 doubles and 35.0 homers in 2018

175.3 strikeouts and 33.8 walks in 2017
154.3 strikeouts and 38.2 walks in 2018

63.8 runs and 72.6 RBI in 2017
76.4 runs and 95.5 RBI in 2018

0.231 average, 0.284 OBP, 0.467 slugging in 2017
0.258 average, 0.308 OBP, 0.519 slugging in 2018

0.751 OPS in 2017
0.827 OPS in 2018

In Denver? Thin air. A golf ball goes about 10% farther at that altitude, so a baseball probably does too. That's still a long ball, but not as impressive if at sea level.

The ball had an Exit velocity of 111.9 mph. Doesn't matter where he hit it, that ball was gone. It is also the longest HR of the statcast era (since 2015) where they can accurately estimate distance.

Not the last 3 years he isn’t

It's ok to just say it, Coach34 was wrong.

The Padres had closed Renfroe's stance. It resulted in him murdering lefthanders and hitting like a clown against righthanders. Earlier this year, he opened his stance more similar to his college stance. His numbers have dropped against lefties compared to last year because of it. But he is drastically improved against righthanders. Now he hits righties and lefties at a similar pace.

In 2017 he hit .202 versus RHP and .316 versus LHP. His OPS was .637 versus RHP and 1.076 versus LHP.

In 2018 he is hitting .257 versus RHP and .260 versus LHP. His OPS is .830 versus RHP and .820 versus LHP.

This is significant because there are a lot more RHP in baseball than there are LHP.

He will probably claim that until Hunter plays 162 games in one year then he is technically right.

One thing about Harper is that he walks a lot because teams fear him. So his OBP and OPS is always high. I like Hunter, but give every team their choice and they will all choose Harper over Renfroe. Of course Harper will cost a helluva lot more.
