For those of you used to using the courtesy carts to get to the stadium be warned those are now just for MSU employees even though the season ticket guide says they're still for everybody. Highly 17ing pissed right now they're forcing my mom to walk as far as she's having to. Seven back surgeries, degenerative discs, scoliosis, and a heart conditon and they give less than a 17.

Oh he shall be made privy to this event. If they made that policy and announced it then I have no problem. But when they still advertise they offer them then oh hell no.

We were wondering the same thing about the carts and handicapped parking. It is our understanding now that there was an incident with an elderly lady last year. She got hurt and sued the university and was awarded $2M. So, no more carts.

Hate the be the voice of reason, but getting someone with those health problems out in the early September MS heat may not be the smartest thing, mid October will problably bring much better temps. The 3 November game against La Tech may be a good one for those with serious heath issues.

Heat isn't the issue. Our seats are in the upper deck and if it gets hot or cold he can go back in the concourse where it's climate controlled. Beside, it was a night game and not hot.

There isn?t any way that someone got hurt during football season last year, filed a lawsuit, and it was tried to verdict in less than a year. Notwithstanding the timeline, any injury or lawsuit like that would be all over the news.

Now is it possible that someone got hurt on a cart last year which resulted in them severely limiting the use? Possibly.

FWIW. This is the explanation we got from the BDC We were having a group meeting about the new RV lot and this subject came up because there are several people who are unable to walk from this lot to the stadium and no shuttle is provided from this lot. The University carts were intended for people with health issues and disabilities but by law they can't ask what you disability is and found that they spent most of there time hauling Yeti coolers and able bodied people. By designating ADA lots they could provide ADA compliant shuttles with wheelchair capability. We could use a private golf cart to shuttle people but a private cart can not pass through any barricade or enter any reserved lot without a pass so we were only able to get within 300 yards of the stadium which is still not close enough for some in our lot.

Seriously, I really need to know who told you it was against the law to ask people whether or not they are handicap when you are providing a service that is reserved for people who are handicapped.

I thought when the university banned golf carts and people complained about some people not being able to make a long walk they were told this is what the university carts were for.
My elderly uncle did not attend games last year because of the cart ban but I talked him into coming to games this year by telling him we would find a university cart each game to help he and my aunt. I'll be on the phone this week with the school. I don't see how they can't accommodate people that have trouble with a long walk. He will be in a handicap lot which is across the street from our tailgate so I hope they will at the least accommodate people in the handicap lots.

It's probably because of HIPPA.

The bottom line is MSU needs a better mode of transportation for our fans that are disabled to get them closer to the stadium. It's really easy to fall off of a golf cart. They need something like a wheelchair van. I'd also recommend letting our fans that are disabled into the stadium earlier than others as well. I saw a shuttle with a wheelchair lift and I noticed that it didn't have straps for the wheels of the wheelchair and I also noticed that it took a couple of minutes for the workers to get the lift to work.

Why can I not just drive my street legal cart up to the stadium & park like I use to on the grass??? Come on people! This is stupid!

If a person is severely limited or disable then of course the University needs to have carts available to help move people to and from the stadium. These policies need to be communicated clearly and understood prior to the season. I would think that the university would be in compliance with all ADA laws otherwise the chances for a lawsuit are greater than some random person getting hurt. People also need to use common sense, if you have some one in poor health, the burden is on you not to put that person at risk just to watch a football game live. Also, I agree with the no cart rule that is in place there needs to be a middle ground. I know that other campuses that I have visited have similar issues, we had to walk miles to get to the stadium at Auburn and I didn't see any shuttles. I have been to Cowboy stadium on multiple occasions and had to uber up or walk a great distance to the stadium. My point, anytime you get 60K people or more into a small area shuttles can only do so much otherwise they are caught up in the same traffic you would drive a car into....

So the handicap shuttles don't bring the handicapped to the stadium? Am I thinking of the wrong YMCA?

Which bus and which route?

It's the lot at the Rec a Plex softball field behind the vet school. You go up the new road to access it now. I think she said that the other new ADA lot was at the research park but I could be mistaken on that one. I didn't ask specifically about ADA Access because that wasn't the topic of our meeting but I got the impression that if you needed help these were your only two options and if you already had a parking pass closer to the stadium you were on your own. The thing to me is why wasn't this communicated prior to 10 am Saturday morning because I read every email they send out and I even read the stuff in the ticket book just to see what changes they were making and all that was news to me. The was a 82 year old gentleman who came Friday to set up his motorhome and was unprepared for how un level his spot was and when he found out that he had no way to get to the stadium other than walk, he announced to us that he was going home in his car because there was no way he nor his wife could make the walk. He would come back Sunday afternoon and pick up his RV after the lot cleared out. Another gentleman gave away his two Club Level tickets and watched it at his RV because he was unable to make the walk. There was a couple of legal private golf carts in the lot and we tried to figure out how to shuttle these people to the stadium but we couldn't get near the stadium on a private cart because they have moved the barricades even further away from the stadium at least in that direction.

Thanks. Similar to the Left field Lounge situation, the private cart situation became a level of potential liability that legitimately causes concern about pedestrians near the stadium getting seriously injured. I do agree there needs to be a type of cart shuttle service from the point the stadium bollards up to the gate for people who are handicapped and legit need assistance. I know that in 2001, I was very grateful my pregnant wife got a ride on a cart coming out of the game.

The actual issue is that as crowds grow, parking literally must move outward from the stadium. RV's just dont have a spot next to the stadium anymore. Those good old days are gone forever with the popularity of the junction tents. Actually ALL of the buses on Saturday were capbable of moving ADA customers on their route, but the routes from the south dropped at Newell Grissom and the routes from the north dropped at Giles and Old Main Academic.

There is no viable answer that doesn't come with liability to the issue of elderly people having to walk long distances to get to games.

There's got to be some middle ground solution, though, for those not rich enough to have a building named after us and allowed to park right next to the stadium. Thing is, Saturday after the game I saw what looked Iike a caravan of carts with a pickup escort. Probably 7-8 carts and most of the people on them looked in their 20's and 30's.

No question. Your concern is legit and I hope we move towards some solution that helps them more and more. There are very successful systems out there and we probably need to move towards dealing with the issue like they have. None are perfect, but some are better (and more expensive) than others.

Myself, I've purchased a golf cart that worked well for 1 season, bicycles for the family that were used once and I eventually went to dropping off my family with our car so one (me of course) had the job of walking back to where I paid to park. But getting back to them was pretty tough from the parking lot.

I eventually gave up. I have tickets, but I'm guessing this is the last season I buy them because it's just easier paying higher prices for one or two games if I decide to go than planning the trek to Scott Field 7 times a season.

My biggest problem with it is they waited until after everyone got their tickets and parking passes and then say they won't have the carts to help people.
