View Full Version : Didn't realize Austin Williams.....

....runs a 4.58 forty. That's pretty good for a tall receiver that also has a 38" vertical. I had thought he was our best potential receiver coming in to this season, but just didn't know he had those measurables. I was thinking his biggest asset was his hands. This will allow him to line up anywhere in the WR rotation. Any WR that can get anywhere near 4.5 can get the job done. I thought he was like 4.8 forty speed and more of a possession type WR. This guy may be really special before it is all said and done!

He is a white kid so obviously he is just a possession receiver**

But you are correct, Austin was a stud HS receiver from Ocean Springs, many people will be pleasantly surprised with his speed and athleticism - on top of that our receivers will be a better group because of him (off the field and meeting room)

He is our best receiver period. His hands are what separates him and getsey said his route running is like a machine precise and well oiled. I usually never say this for someone who has never played a down but he has NFL potential for sure,

Going to be sure interesting to see what he does this year. He’s not likely to start but let’s see how long.

Below is a good video but who is the QB he is playing with. That kid is as accurate as anyone I have ever seen in HS. And on the run most of the time.

Don't they scrimmage tonight?

I believe he will. Mixon still nicked some. Dear could be the man but does he have 4.5 after his injury. Williams is taller which I believe JoMo likes. If Dear is better than Williams right now then we should be pretty solid at WR. Heck if Williams is 6'3" (trying to remember correctly) he could be opposite of Guidry. I may be sleeping on Deddrick too

He’s consistently been with the 2s so far. But Jordy Nelson comparisons leads you to believe we won’t stay there long. But people need to be careful with crazy expectations. He’s still a RS freshman that hasn’t played a game. There’s always one guy the fans pick every year to be the next stud. He’s not there yet.

I'm not asking for him to be a stud at this point, just better than anything we had last year.

Jordy Nelson runs a 4.3. He's more Eric Decker then Nelson

I am really expecting JoMo's offense to be great for Deddrick, and it's sounding like Austin will be a real good one. I imagine Getsy is thrilled having those two, Dear and Mixon in the slot. As much as we lacked in good receivers on the field in the past, I'm hoping the new offense will do as much for that group as just having better ones on the field does.

This. Decker is the obvious comp due to size, speed, and being a white WR. Recent NFL combine comps: Michael Thomas, Cooper Kupp, Courtland Sutton, Malachi Dupre.

I get more of a Chris Hogan, the Patriots WR, vibe with Williams.

I’m not the person that compared him to Nelson. Just passing on the word. I was tongue in cheek with that comment. It’s just funny seeing people say he’s so good when he hasn’t even played.

Hell, after what we had last year, I'll take whatever improvement we can get.

I'm like you though. I'll wait and see before I annoint him the next Eric Decker. We've had players who showed out in practice who didn't amount to crap when gametime came around. I do like what's being said about him though.

Cooterpoot

I just believe in being fair to him. No point in anointing him the next whoever. If he’s good, he’ll play a lot.

Just for comparison, Dez Bryant runs a 4.52 fourty. Jordy has NFL speed. Jerry Rice ran a 4.71 fourty, but was rarely ever caught on game day. Austin definitely has the measurables. If he can carry them over to game day, then there will definitely be a tremendous upgrade at wide receiver over last season.

Guidry should be our best WR next year. I love Austin Williams though. I would definitely start him either at the outside or slot position.

Austin and that QB have the corner fade route down pat!!! He just goes up and takes the ball away from the DB several times too. I like that.....got quite a bit of AJ Brown in him. Much more physical than I figured too.

At the combine he ran a 4.41, 4.51 and 4.62. The fact that he ran a 4.41 electric time proves he's fast. Rice never ran a 4.4 or 4.5 his entire career. Yes, he'd definitely run a 4.3 hand timed.

Recruited out of the Gulf Coast and red shirted. Chances are he probably could have contributed last season but you know Mullen.

the sad thing is , I've never been in a band of any kind. I'm 70--refereed HS football-baseball and basketball for 25 years--played sports up to JUCO- Coached basketball some. But never even played a kazoo--wish i could have . But if you think Jordy actually ran a 4.3 forty-you are not very intelligent.

I respect my elders but I understand your moodiness now. Do you know the difference in a hand timed 40 and electric? The average difference is .12 according to professional trainers that do it for a living. I'll take their expertise experience over you reffing experience all day. However, if I need to know about a rule i'll look you.

I believe I do know the difference. I also know Jordy can't run a 4.3 with acme rockets strapped to his ass. Give me 1 link where a trainer says Jordy runs a 4.3. Young assholes are annoying

Both is possible if our defense is better than last year and gets us more possessions.
