I never thought I'd be happy about this before the postseason, but I am now

That's some great news! Never thought I'd be saying that back in march or april. That young man balled out that last half of the season and post season. Amazing the turn around in such a short amount of time. Glad Cole is coming back!

He pitched so well in so many outings last postseason it really does seem like he's figured it out at a sustainable level. The new PC who will teach things with a new perspective can only help him.

We've just solved 4-5 innings of weekend pitching. Ginn gives us 2ish at least if he's the closer, Price should give us a few of high level stuff... things are really coming together.

So for Comet and Todd etc, I guess this is as good of a thread as any to ask: How's our staff looking? I know Ashcraft transferred. What's the scoop on Breaux, Plumlee (if he's even gong to be here?), Self, Price, James, the Fr, etc. It's been a while and I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering how injuries are going and how everyone's looking

I'm obviously neither, but breaux pitched 1 outing in summer league and apparently left team. Hard for me to count on him... you would have to think that's injury related, again

Plumlee has been lights out in the Cape...I thought he had been reinstated to the team already

I thought he pitched pretty well Everytime I saw him. This board seems to go overboard when a player messes up a game here or there. Never thought bad things about the kid. Hope he builds off his success last year.

If we can get post Oklahoma Cole and Summer League Peyton Plumlee it'll go a long way on shoring up any losses from last year's pitching staff. Comet, what's the word on Ginn? Are they looking to make him a starter and a fielder on off days or a fielder and bring him in to close out games?

I seen it dawg

Huge for staff to get him back. He can eat innings and provide veteran leadership. Just hope he doesn't coach first. Should never ever ever ever want to leave college if there is an avenue to stay. Never!

I don't think plumlee was in the cape. But he did pitch well this summer. And he will be fighting for one of the non scholarship spots. So nothing is for sure. If he pitches well, I guess he'll make it since we are giving him the chance.

The plan right now is for JT to be a weekend starter and play a position or DH when not pitching.

any updates on Tyler Spring and Tucker Childers and the NJCAA national team?

Plumlee is not in the Cape. He was in the Perfect Game League and was old for the league. He dominated about as much as Zane Stephens who won't be back in 2019. It's good that he has dominated but I'd still pump the brakes on him as far as being in the rotation. I do think he could help the rotation out and I think he will help the bullpen out.

Keegan James has looked good in the Cape. Breaux left not because of an arm injury but because his summer coaches overworked him. He will be back in the fall.

I'd guess the rotation right now would be Small, Keegan, and Ginn with Carter Stewart possibly being a wild card. Plumlee and Tyler Spring will be in the mix competing as well.

I'm really excited about Cole coming back.

It's kind of fascinating situation in that, had Cole thrown the way he did down the stretch all season, he probably gets drafted & isn't here anymore. There were times in the regionals & CWS where Cole looked like a top 10 round type prospect.

Instead, we get him back & now he has a chance to be a legit weapon. It just goes to show you how in baseball, one adjustment or a little bit of confidence can go a long way for guys.

Good assessment of the staff. I've also heard Hatcher is getting work/looked at as a lefty specialist out of bullpen.

ETA Tyler Spring has nasty stuff. He's gonna help us. Reminds me a little of France.

Thanks! I have Spring ahead of Plumlee but a lot of that is because I just like Plumlee better out of the bullpen. With Plumlee, Self, and Gordon you have three guys that can eat innings and then you have Price but we'll see where he is in the spring.

I think Gordon deserves a look as a starter. He can throw 100 pitches with ease. He's an innings eater. He can also rack up the K's when his curve is hitting the zone. He has a MLB curveball.

Only accepting what we have actually seen from these players:

(1) Gordon is the top Middle Reliver on weekends
(2) Plum is a very good 4th starter and a decent Middle Reliver on Weekends
(3) James is a Suturday starter if healthy
(4) Self is the #2 Middle Reliver on weekends and hopefully develops another pitch
(5) McQ is due and he is a junior, could be anything or nothing much
(6) Price and Breaux are total unknowns

I think the 2 1st rounders are better out of the bullpen with Small, Gordon, James the 3 starters.

 wouldn't you want to maximize the innings of your two most talented players?

What is your theory on how them coming out of the pen makes us better?

My theory is we'll have the nastiest bullpen in the country with Ginn, Stewart, Self. Gordon can throw 6 innings in his sleep.

We could also have the nastiest rotation in the country and not have to worry about the bullpen as much.

Not with two starters on strict pitch counts we won't.

Are you an expert on how to keep pitcher's healthy? Where did you hear about strict pitch counts from?

And while we're at it, what's your recommended pitch count?

Was listening to Justin Strawn's podcast on BSR the other day and he was talking about the fact that one of the issues with Carter Stewart was us having trouble scraping up adequate scholarship money for him. Hadn't really thought about that being a potential hold up with him but nobody, including anyone on our coaching staff, would have projected that we would have not one, but TWO first round picks that would/could show up on campus. With the very limited scholly money allowed for baseball I'm sure we are having to find some very inventive ways to get some of these guys the scholarship money they were promised given we are looking to bring possibly 2 first rounders onto the team that I would think would expect close to a full ride.

For a talent like Stewart our coaches will make it work.
