This isn't "news" per se, but I watched a little of Finebaum's show yesterday and he was really ripping into Meyer. I somehow got the notion that he was more offended by the fact that Meyer lied to the media than he was for Meyer not reporting the coach (even though he said otherwise, I kinda think that's most of his displeasure).

I'm kinda wondering now if Arkansas and OM folks feel like Petrino and Hugh should have been rehabbed, maybe laundered by good deeds and positive media coverage for it and then brought back after a brief suspension.

I know one Ole Miss fan who has admitted that Freeze's massage parlor or escort visits were wrong. Just one. And I'm shocked that Chip Henderson hasn't taken his deacons to visit these ladies, just to prove that Freeze is the second coming.

Ive been thinking that most of the butthurt displayed by the media with Urban is mostly because of the lies he told them, the media, and not much about wether Urban did things right or wrong reporting the dv situation. Of course, they may stumble into a payoff and cover up, but I still think they are upset most at being lied to.

UM still probably saved themselves bad sanctions by dropping Freeze. I don't think the NCAA was just interested in Freeze, but him being gone allowed them to save a little face. Only the people really paying attention realize that Freeze and UM basically got off scott free except for having to recruit under the cloud of the investigation for one year.

But Arkansas definitely should have rehabbed Petrino if all they were worried about was w's and l's. Would have been incredibly difficult to do PR wise, but as bad as hooking up with a subordinate is, you can kind of put a dollar figure on the exposure to the university for that (and it's well below what Petrino was paid and what he was worth). The lying to the employer is a much bigger problem. You have to punish him enough that neither he nor anybody else thinks it's proven he's bigger than the university while also not making him so miserable and undercutting his authority so much that he's better off just leaving and doing the image rehab at another school.
