The two #1 teams that faced off in the national championship.
Auburn, that beat both national championship teams.
And UM, that intentionally head hunted Fitz' leg because they knew they were going to get beat.

And yet they have us ranked behind Houston? Really?

Aeris, Hill, or Fitz are going to run for 200 yards individually against a few SEC teams this year.
Fitz may set the single season passing TD record this year.
We picked up two headliners in Whop and Guildry. Not to mention we get back Mixon, Dear, and Austin Williams will see the field.

Our DL may break a single game sack record.

Fine, Houston has more coming back and more potential.

Re' the UM loss, yes, Fitz' loss in that game really hurt, and turnovers really hurt. That aside, Todd Grantham's defense didn't help any either, especially in all the losses mentioned above. If you look at films of those losses, we consistently got beat in the secondary, and we let guys run right up the middle for long gains or TD's. We didn't even touch the Georgia RB one time when he ran for about 30 yards for a TD. I hope Shoop will be a vast improvement over Grantham.

Grantham is a good DC but we got to experience why the UGA folks called him 3rd and Grantham. This why I think Florida's DBs are going to have problems covering Quidry, Whop and Austin Williams. The secondary is not a strength in Grantham's defensive scheme. That's why I'm really interested in seeing Shoop's handling of the secondary b/c that's his wheelhouse.

Well all defenses get smoked from time to time. Remember Shoops defense giving up a bomb to lose to a terrible UF team last year.

Here is the problem with rankings. They reflect your record more than they reflect how good you are. For instance, let's assume we could really rank teams by how good they actually are. Team A is legitimately the 5th best team in the country. Team B is legitimately the 20th best team in the country. But Team A (#5 ranking) plays teams 1, 2, 3, and 4 on their schedule. So they end up with an 8-4 record. Team B (#20 ranking) plays nobody better than the 21st team in the country. So they end up with a 12-0 record. So Team A gets knocked down from #5 because of their 8-4 record (probably ends up ranked #23). Team B gets falsely inflated because of their 12-0 record (probably ends up top 8).

We would whip Houston's butt. But their schedule will help their record. UCF was a dang good team last year. But they wouldn't have gone any better than 9-3 with an SEC schedule. Instead they are hanging banners and declaring themselves National Champions.

Calm down Betty. We are actually getting some love in the media which is a nice change from our usual dead last in the West ranking. Remember 2014? We went from a nobody to #1 very quickly which shows that proving it on the field is the real deal not what some hack types on his keyboard in the preseason.
