Braves first-round pick (No. 8 overall) Carter Stewart will not sign with Atlanta, according to MLB.com.
The high schooler out of Florida had a medical issue (wrist) pop up after he was drafted by the Braves which resulted in Atlanta offering significantly less for his services than he expected.
Stewart's wrist injury created a definite concern for the Braves. The two parties have not yet been close. But if the Braves have offered at least $1.992 M (40% of the $4.98 M slot value) and Stewart doesn't sign, the team will get another first round pick next year. https://t.co/fOikxulOTh

As a result, Stewart will instead go to play college ball at Mississippi State along with fellow first-rounder (No. 34 overall) J.T. Ginn who was taken by the Dodgers.
The Braves lost Stewart, but as long as they offered him enough money relative to his slot the team will be compensated with an additional first-round pick in 2019.
