He's a good one. The next week or so is going to be very big for the future of OUR Baseball program. I'm excited.

I was just about to ask if anyone knew anything about this kid. His JUCO stats are crazy. .440 19 HR 55 RBI 14 SB

He pitched too but had a 4.79 ERA over 20 innings

Who is that?

6'3" SS and RHP with 3 years of eligibility. MLB wanted him as a project pitcher, but he says his heart is at the plate. In JC he hit .440 with 19 homers in 55 games. ERA just under 5 in 20 ip, but he had good K numbers and pitching is why he was drafted so the potential is there

Candidate for 1B, 2B, LF, or DH. Most feel he can’t play SS at the SEC level.

I'd take him at DH we need a raker

JT Ginn would look great there. Just sayin...

Bruiser on SPS says halter had 22 errors in 209 chances. That's .890 fielding %. I hope some of those should've been on the 1st baseman bc that's pretty bad

I’d go this way: Westburg at 3rd, LA at SS, Jordan at 2nd, Halter at first, Allen at LF, Mangum at CF, Mac in Right, a freshman coming in at C, Ginn at DH, Small Friday, James Saturday, Ginn Sunday

Lineup

1 Mangum
2 Jordan
3 Mac
4 Halter
5 Ginn
6 Allen
7 Westburg
8 LA
9 Catcher

That’s a pretty stout lineup and would be a murderers row at the beginning of it.

Yeah who knows with scorekeepers these days. Even with the Braves - Yankee game last Didi wasn’t charged with an error by the Yankee’s and it was a pretty obvious error imo

Needs to pick up breaking balls better.

Could start for us at 3rd or 2nd and handle SS in short stints. Could also be a solid middle reliever for us. Has sneaky power but gets big at times and struggles with breaking balls.

Will hit in the 5-7 hole for us

Good evaluation. IMO he doesn't have the range or hands to play SS full time but could backup there. Think he would be ok at 3B but we seem to be loaded at that position.

So everyone pretty much agrees halter isn't a SS. Cohen says westburg 1b/3b. We need to be getting a SS. Alexander could go to pot hitting again (I think he has a strong senior season though) or get hurt... we'd be in a mess

Probably over half of our infielders played SS in HS.

Ha. Finally enough of a little break from ball to actually get to watch a full game last night.

Nice pick up for us. Our best JUCO prospect since Kruger and Lowe.

I think he has a chance to be. I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles some while he makes the adjustment to SEC ball like Lowe, Kruger, and MacNamee did but I think by the end of the year he will have numbers that are comparable to those three. Having a Dad that is a former MLB player helps too.

Seriously, if LA has topped out at a 220 batting average, not sure he can command significant playing time

He was a clutch performer in 2017 but he's now looking like a Tyson Lee character compared to the competition (Westburg, Foscue, Rowdey Jordan, Halter, Bryce Bush, Landon Jordan) he is now facing in the middle infield and 3B.

PLUS, where does Ginn go? It would be cool if LA could just play the field and Ginn could DH for him.

The issue with LA is that he's easily the best SS on the roster & we can't really replace his glove.

It's not really his range that is the issue. It's his feet. He's a little flat footed at SS & sits back on balls.

Sometimes that's not due to flat footedness. It's due to the Olay factor. Not having the balls to attack.

I agree on that with his feet but he also doesn't seem to get good jumps or cover the amount of ground I want to see covered in a ss. Imo. And that's not a knock on the kid just think hes more suited to another position.

Any word on Cole Gordon? I'd give him the Saturday start over James.

He’s working on getting into grad school. If he gets in, he will be on the team next year.

Early in the year I Never thought I'd say this, but I sure hope Cole comes back. He sure threw some clutch innings for us and hope to see him throw some more!

Cole Gordon grew some Gorodo's in the postseason. I want him back too.

Yeah he did! He figured something out. I've never seen a pitcher make such a drastic turn around in such a short amount of time. He gives us so much versatility.

Seemed to me he figured out a repeatable rhythm with his motion which really helped with his location. Before then he seemed to often overthrow the pitch causing him to miss low.

Now this was a BIG get for us. Big time power hitter that I thought might go MLB. Maybe if Cumbest can have a fast learning curve, would love to see these two guys bat within each other and maybe Westburg too. Lets see...?MacNammee, Westburg, Allen, Hatcher, Halter, and Cumbest. Have a feeling those 6 would put up some nice HR and RBI numbers once they get going. I know, I know.....kind of pie in the sky....but it's fun to speculate. Then throw in Mangum and Anderson to lead off with mega speed...... And one of the new catchers who can stop the damn ball from getting by them. Need two more hard throwing pitchers to go with Small and we could be making some noise next year.
