Beginning a few days ago the issue of college rankings in the Wall Street Journal popped up on several different occasions. The original poster was indignant at what he believed was a precipitous drop in rankings for 2018. However such was not the case. In fact out of 2600 plus entries State?s rank was 180 with a ?Niche score ?A??. By contrast Ole Miss was ranked 226 with a Niche score A-. Indeed we were ahead of a number of other schools in the SEC. Perhaps the poster was getting the WSJ ranking confused with the National Science Foundation ranking where we are customarily in the top 100. These use completely different matrices for determining ranking. The poster questioned what he intimated was the declining value of his education. A couple of factoids: In dollars generated for research in Mississippi IHL Mississippi State brought in more than the other 8 entities combined, including the Med Center. Secondly we have the highest composite starting salaries of any of the 8 universities. Keenum is doing an excellent job.

The drop is listed in US News and Word Report as well as Princetons Review. Carry on trying to defend what is happening.
