Just happened to stumble across this game. At the moment, Oregon is killing Kentucky.

A couple of comments: 1) The Oregon players are hyper, especially the blonde pitcher. She looks mean 2) The Oregon fans are weird ... they and the players keep making that strange O with their hands 3) The Oregon players appear to be wearing black yoga pants. Some can pull it off, some can't. Think OM women's basketball for the latter. 4) The woman color announcer isn't very good 5) They have what could be a six-story loft in center field. It could also be a dorm on campus. 6) The field is plastic grass, but the dirt is real, mostly.

And they have DJ Sanders (New Hope) who we passed on.

How many P5 offers did Sanders have coming out of HS? What were her grades and ACT score which plays heavily into recruiting? What was the scouting report of her on the travel circuit? What level of play was she playing on during travel seasons? Make no mistake she was very athletic with raw power and ability. But it was raw and there is a reason that ULL was her best offer. Happens in every sport on many levels that players develop more than anticipated. But coming out of HS there were questions. She wasn’t even going to start at ULL as a freshman until there was an injury.

She’s the SS for the #1 ranked team in America. That didn’t happen overnight. Some can coach’m Up. Some take lesser talent. She’s been killing it for 3+ years.

Oregon didn’t do it either, she transferred from ULL. And she was known to be a good defensive player but Lotief didn’t think she would take to hitting as good or as quickly as she did. He had planned to have her just be a defensive substitute as a freshman. You are hindsight picking a player that Murphy, Torina, and Vann ALL three questioned if she would hit elite pitching. Even after she committed to ULL she could hit straight fast but she struggled against JUCO small college level commits that had great spin and couldn’t break 60. Lotief broke her down and she took to the changes much faster than anticipated. But you nor anyone else could have known that at the time. Defense was never a question and Lotief needed defense.
