Here's the first cone for Subtropical Storm Alberto. We're kicking off the Tropical season off right, IMO.

MSU owns weather. Two of the main a.m. radio weather dudes are MSU here in DFW.

We're out of town for a funeral, made no real preparations, what kind of impacts we looking at in gulf shores? Just heavy rain over a few days?

Heavy rain and maybe some TS strength winds. Surge should be pretty minimal, maybe some localized surge.

For all of my fellow weather nerds. All WFOs along the coast will be launching soundings every 6 hours instead of every 12 hours. Everything will be available here: https://t.co/msFODmucW0

How quickly is it going to move once it makes landfall? We are supposed to be going to Orange Beach Thursday but not sure if that's still a good idea.

I think you should be fine going to OB on Thursday.

If it looks like it may ease up into hurricane status I may have to ease on down to Biloxi. Some of the more excitable models are doing that, but I think they may need to pump the brakes.

That's pretty typical in many markets it seems. They get around.

My son and his family are moving to Panama City Beach week after next. The propensity for hurricanes on the coast bothers me a bit, but they want to get away from Atlanta traffic and the big city in general. Can't say that I blame them for that. At least they won't have an issue with snow and ice down there.

If it does, it will be very borderline it appears. Never want to call any tropical system not dangerous but not much to see so far on the models. Biggest thing will be to see how fast it moves out.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath. The NAM Nest and NAM3K are really losing their minds on intensity, but I just can't believe it'll do that. Water temps still very marginal in the Gulf. Got to get right near shore to hit mid 80's. Everything else 78-81.

We own the broadcast market, tbh.

As an Atlanta Refugee who headed for a coast in 2000 - trading ATL traffic for occasional hurricanes is worth it. Every. Single. Day.

Models are shifting a little to the East. Looks like LA may miss out on the brunt of it, but high winds are still possible

It'll be windy and rainy for them...shouldn't be Hurricane strength.

Guess this won't be the storm to scratch a tropical system off my bucket list. Not driving to Pensacola for a tropical storm.

I mean...you could stand out in TS force winds and it may intensify. Look at the SST right now and tell me it isn't conducive for some intensification on the back end. I think it'll be a high-end TS in the end.

In the end, it'll stay a TS, but Alberto will be a sign of things to come this year.

There's a "storm surge watch" for Mobile and Baldwin Counties, so that could easily go a bit east to include Destin. I'm not sure how much of a storm surge is expected to require such a watch.

As long as they take reasonable precautions they should be OK. The beaches will no doubt be closed during most of that period so you most likely don't need to be concerned with them getting too close to the Gulf. But I'm with you ... I'd be concerned too.

The cone has shifted even more east now, with the center right over Birmingham and Huntsville on Tuesday.
